Established in Afghanistan in 1988, The HALO Trust is the world’s largest Mine Action organisation. Our mission is to save lives and restore communities threatened by landmines and other explosive hazards including unexploded or abandoned cluster bombs, projectiles, rockets and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). With a staff of 12,500 we are operational in 30 countries around the world.
Since our beginning, HALO has been at the forefront of innovative technological and procedural developments in Mine Action, and we use a wide range of equipment and techniques to find and remove explosive hazards. Well established in Ukraine since 2016, we are expanding quickly to meet the burgeoning explosive hazard threat across the country.
About the Role
One of two deputies working to HALO’s Head of Operations in Ukraine, as the Deputy Head of Operational Support your focus will be driving and delivering expert operational effectiveness and efficiency across all our in-country explosive hazard mitigation operations. Specifically, you will lead and coordinate the programme’s Training, Research and Development, Information Management, Quality Assurance, Mechanical and Medical departments bringing coherence and innovation to our expansion plans.
The role would suit someone with a blend of practical oriented experience (in any field) combined with the management and leadership skills to build teams, formalise procedures and implement sustainable systems. Previous military experience is desirable but not essential. Most importantly you need to be a robust, team-oriented leader who is comfortable with living and working in hazardous environments, with a passion for driving the efficiency, effectiveness and safety of our team.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all departments in the Operations Support team, strengthening HALO’s operational performance.
- Develop and implement operational support strategies, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of the programme, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Collaborate with other departments to identify and resolve operational issues and ensure the smooth running of operations.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Develop and maintain a positive and productive work environment, promoting teamwork, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
Who we’re looking for:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, operations management, or a related field.
- Significant experience in operations support management, preferably in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve operational issues.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as required.
- Ability to speak Russian or Ukrainian is desirable.
