UN personnel are exposed to various health and security hazards that may result in disease, psychological trauma and life-threatening injuries. Dedicated, effective primary health, occupational health and emergency medical services may mitigate negative outcomes of trauma, injuries and health complications providing better chances for saving lives as well as for faster and better recovery.
The objective of the United Nations (UN) Wellness Centre is to provide primary clinical care and occupational health services to all locally and internationally recruited personnel of the UN Common System and their recognized dependents. The UN Wellness Centre operates under the direct supervision of UNDP and overall administrative responsibility of the UN Resident Coordinator. The technical supervision, absence management and performance evaluation of the nurse shall be under the responsibility of UNDP DRR (or her/his designate) on administrative matters, and WHO Country representative (or her/his designated) for technical issues.
Clinical Technical Duties
Within the delegated authority, the Nurse shall be responsible for the following duties:
- Attend the UN Wellness Centre on a full-time basis;
- Assess needs of clients visiting the walk-in Wellness Centre, provides care/advice (e.g., the benefits of preventive medicine etc.) accordingly and facilitates referral to an outside physician, as indicated;
- Give First aid and advice to the staff and their recognized dependents;
- Performs diagnostic and screening tests such as: ECG, laboratory (blood and urine), and other tests as required;
- Ensures preparedness of staff travelling on missions or reassignments, including administration of appropriate vaccine, instructions on malaria prophylaxis and other travel-related ailments;
- Assists in providing health education and health promotion programs;
- Coordinates medical evacuation and assists in providing nursing support during evacuation and repatriation;
- Perform medical briefing for incoming staff and conduct first aid training;
- Administer minor “outpatient” treatment and immunization requirements;
- Maintain strict confidentiality with regard to patient’s medical records, patient management, and treatment;
- Perform medication, injection, dressing, stitching, foreign body extraction, etc. as needed;
- Performs other related duties as required.
Administrative duties
- Maintain the UN Wellness Center in good order and keep the inventory of medical supplies and equipment up to date;
- Establish and maintain close relations with hospitals, private medical facilities, blood banks, and laboratories;
- Coordinate and supervise the work of other UN Wellness personnel i.e., Cleaners;
- Check equipment and supplies on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis and maintain them in working order;
- Ensures that medical instruments are properly sterilized and maintains hygiene and cleanliness of the UN Wellness Centre;
- Enter medical data of patients into the register, patient's file, and electronic databases;
- Ensure proper and safe disposal of hazardous material and medical waste in close coordination with the Ministry of Health;
- Updates the monthly medical reports.

- Knowledge of relevant concepts and mechanisms
- High school education is a requirement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and/or related areas is desirable.
- National registration and license is a requirement.
- Minimum 7 years (High School Education) or 4 years (Bachelor’s degree) of relevant experience in continuous clinical experience in nursing preferably in a multicultural environment;
- Recognized additional training in primary health care and midwifery is desirable;
- HIV/AIDS/COVID-19 Management training is desirable;
- Experience in the use of computers, office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.), data packages, and web-based management systems such as ERP.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in English and Siswati is required. Working knowledge of other UN languages is desirable.
