Mission and objectives

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV has five Regional Offices in Amman (Arab States, Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States), Bangkok (Asia and the Pacific), Dakar (West and Central Africa), Nairobi (East and Southern Africa) and Panama City (Latin America and the Caribbean). The regional offices are the first entry point for partners wishing to engage with UNV. They offer UNV services and solutions to government partners, UN entities, civil society and the private sector, and takes the lead in scoping and delivering UNV advisory services on volunteer infrastructure. They also provide oversight and strategic guidance to UNV's field units in the regions.

Context

For more than 20 years, UNV has supported UN partners, governments, and civil society organizations (CSOs) through its Online Volunteering (OV) service. The service is provided free of charge to all eligible organizations and allows them to connect with volunteers from around the world to team up and tackle sustainable human development challenges. To ensure collaborations enabled through the online volunteering service stay within the universal reach and neutrality of the United Nations, UNV requires non-UN entities to have undergone a due diligence clearance by either the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) or UN country teams (see our eligibility criteria for organizations under: https://explore.unv.org/ov-eligibility). To allow more CSOs to register on our platform and benefit from the online volunteering service and overall offer, we would like to engage Online Volunteers to map and classify all the CSO registered in the ECOSOC website in our region.

Task description

We are looking for 23 online volunteers to support the UNV Regional Office of East and West in identifying and classifying Civil Society Organization (CSO) registered on the ECOSOC page within the region. This is going to be a mapping exercise. Each online volunteer will oversee a country in the region. Online Volunteers will conduct the mapping of the assigned country and are expected to fill in necessary information in an Excel document including the information on the CSO (country, area of intervention, contact). The website to be use in the ECOSOC website with specifics filters to be communicated to the selected online volunteers. The Online Volunteer/s will have the opportunity to build connections with the team at UNV ESARO and learn about the ways in which data mapping can support the online volunteering program.
