These offices provide strong in-country support for the implementation of Young Africa Works. THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Lead, Gender and Youth Engagement, the Program Partner, Gender and Inclusion will be responsible for providing execution support to the Country Program Team in developing, implementing and measuring the Foundation’s strategies related to gender mainstreaming, disability inclusion, and inclusion of refugees and displaced persons.

WAYS YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE

  • Provide support to the Country Program Team to ensure that cross-cutting components of gender, youth with disabilities, refugees and displaced youth are mainstreamed across all components of the country programs to achieve inclusion targets.
  • Work in collaboration with the Gender and Youth Engagement Lead, sector leads and relevant stakeholders to build the capacity of partners to effectively engage young women, young people with disabilities, refugees and displaced youth in their programs and amplify learning and knowledge exchange.
  • Manage gender mainstreaming and inclusion needs assessments and design a detailed support plan for staff and partners at the country level including sensitization/training, resource development, identifying support networks, etc. 
  • Identify and provide guidance on good practices in the areas of gender mainstreaming, disability inclusion, and refugee and displaced youth inclusion, and provide ongoing guidance and technical assistance to country programs and partners on how to best incorporate them into programs.
  • Support the development and implementation of the Country Gender Action Plan, as well as inclusion workplans, including the coordination of all involved internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and management of a gender community of practice of partners and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor the achievement of set goals and targets with respect to gender and inclusion through program check-ins and capture data and learnings to inform program improvement.
  • Support the integration of insights and data into program design and implementation.
  • Support country-level learning, research and evaluation partners to ensure that they can stimulate relevant, rigorous, and respective approaches to deepening the Foundation’s approach to gender mainstreaming and inclusion in the Young Africa Works Strategy.
  • Establish connections with pertinent organizations and institutions focusing on women and youth empowerment, refugees, and young people with disabilities, both locally and globally, with a particular emphasis on thematic areas aligned with the country's programming.
  • In partnership with the Gender Lead, actively participate in identifying and engaging with relevant learning networks and communities of practice, as well as representing the Foundation in country-level and higher-level events related to gender and inclusion. 

WHO YOU ARE

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in social science, gender studies, international development, community engagement, or a combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience supporting gender-related initiatives, young people, community mobilization, organizing events involving young women and men in the country with proven track record of integrating inclusive youth centered outcomes in programs and operations.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (PowerPoint, Word and Excel).
  • Solid experience in progressive responsibility in the development and private sector with proven track record of integrating gender equality outcomes in programs and operations.
  • Previous experience working in an organization serving refugees or people with disabilities is an added advantage.
  • Events planning and management experience with strong coordination skills and understanding of project management.
  •  Familiarity with Gender mainstreaming and/or diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)
  • Fluency in English is required, and Kinyarwanda is an added advantage.
  • Passionate about gender equity, inclusion and youth employment in Africa.
  • Team player with a high degree of emotional intelligence.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to execute a range of job duties and changing priorities.
  • Proven excellence in verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate information to a variety of constituents across cultures and to distill complex information and data into accessible conversation and written pieces.
  • Possess professional maturity, sensitivity with different cultures, and impeccable integrity that exemplify the Foundation’s values.
