INTERNSHIP/PROGRAM OVERVIEW: The IRC in
Denver’s Survivors of Torture Project is facilitated under a grant awarded by
the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services/Office of Refugee Resettlement
(ORR). This program provides direct services to survivors of torture (SOTs).
The program delivers holistic services to support survivors and their families
in their rehabilitation. Services include in-house case management,
psychosocial support and legal services, as well as medical and mental health
services provided by referral to community partners.
COMMITMENT: At least 15-20 hours per
week, academic school year
LOCATION: IRC Denver Office and in the metro Denver/Aurora community
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support Survivors Services Supervisor in program development and management of the Survivor Wellness Center
Develop standardized monitoring and evaluation tools to ensure grant compliance and effective recordkeeping
Participate in resource mapping and deepening key community partnerships to build out the two-tiered model in the Survivor Wellness Center program
Assist in processing and triaging enrollments, improving referral pathways, and ensuring quality care coordination across department tiers and subgrantee partnerships
Research ongoing training resources and maintain staff’s onboarding and resource guides with the current evidence-based practices
Assist in ongoing data collection across Survivor of Torture programs
Act as clinical case management aid and provide logistical support in conducting outreach for program opportunities across tiered models when necessary
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
The Intern will gain experience working with a diverse population managing complex experiences of trauma, particularly those navigating refugee, asylee or asylum-seeking status.
The intern will learn to follow the administrative
protocols and procedures of an organization serving clients within
international standards.
Intern will learn and gain a deeper understanding of mental health and psychosocial support services in the Denver Metro area and contribute to developing new services as needs arise.
The intern will also learn to facilitate and implement trauma informed practices and build capacity in community and organizational partners to follow suit.
The intern will gain experience in social services on a micro, mezzo, and macro-level
The intern will participate in program development and management skills, as well as monitoring and evaluation techniques that align with federal and private grant requirements.
