Drawing on the diversity of UNDP’s client needs and partnerships, the Office of Human Resources (OHR) is the hub for the global HR function for UNDP, providing strategy, policy setting, guidance, and oversight. The People Performance Unit (PPU) in the Bureau of Management Services, Office of Human Resources (OHR) exists to provide substantive leadership to the development and implementation of the UNDP-wide approaches and strategies aimed at creating a positive employee experience and maintaining a safe, respectful and enabling working environment that enables personnel engagement, productivity, and performance. More specifically, the team leads and provides advice on matters related to employee experience and engagement, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace, the duty of care with a focus on occupational health, safety, and wellbeing (OHSW), dealing with sexual misconduct in the workplace, and individual performance management and its linkages with the broader organizational performance.

Under the supervision of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Specialist, UNDP is looking for a Disability Inclusion Intern who will support the implementation of interventions to advance the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the workplace.

Full-time for 3-6 months, the internship requires creativity, enthusiasm to learn, and motivation to empower persons with disabilities in the workplace.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Support the roll-out of UNDP’s Disability Inclusion Café, a series of learning sessions that aims to increase knowledge around disability inclusion priority areas and create a supportive working environment free from stigma and discrimination.

  • In collaboration with internal stakeholders, support in collating information regarding priority areas on disability inclusion that could be covered during the upcoming learning session.
  • Assist in organizing logistics for the Disability Inclusion Café, such as scheduling sessions, and coordinating with participants and facilitators.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to disseminate communication materials about the Disability Inclusion Café, including newsletters, social media posts, and website updates.
  • Conduct pre- and post-assessments to measure the impact and effectiveness of the learning sessions in increasing knowledge and awareness around disability inclusion.

2. Support the coordination of UNDP’s Disability Inclusion Network, which aims to facilitate and guide UNDP’s efforts to advance the inclusion of persons with disabilities across the Organization.

  • Create and maintain a comprehensive database of members of the UNDP’s Disability Inclusion Network, including their areas of expertise, skills, and interests.
  • Assist in organizing logistics for the annual meeting of the UNDP’s Disability Inclusion Network in Q4 2023.
  • Manage a Teams channel, a platform for knowledge sharing and best practices on disability inclusion, where members can exchange information, resources, and success stories.

3. Support the implementation of the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS) with a specific focus on indicators related to inclusive employment and organizational culture.

  • Assist in collating information to support the development of an action plan with specific targets and timelines for achieving the desired indicators and goals, in line with the commitments on UNDP’s 2022 report on the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS).

4. Support the implementation of the UNDP-UNV Talent Programme for Young Professionals with Disabilities, a flagship initiative that aims to increase the inclusion of persons with disabilities into the workforce of the development sector.

  • Update and maintain a comprehensive database of participants of the UNDP-UNV Talent Programme for Young Professionals with Disabilities, including their contract durations, areas of expertise, skills, and interests.
  • Manage a Teams channel, a platform for knowledge sharing, where participants can exchange information and resources.
  • Participate in dialogue sessions with participants to assess their experiences and identify areas for improvement.
  • Support expense tracking and resources management.
  • Assist in the development of communication materials, jointly with other relevant stakeholders, around the Programme. the coordination of UNDP’s Disability Inclusion Network, which aims to facilitate and guide UNDP’s efforts to advance the inclusion of persons with disabilities across the Organization.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:Applicants to UNDP internships must at the time of application meet one of the following academic requirements:

  • a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

Experience:

  • Previous work experience would be an advantage but is not a requirement.
  • Knowledge of disability inclusion is required.
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages would be necessary.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Other languages would be an asset.
