B.Project Background
The Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is a German state-owned organisation. We work worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has a longstanding cooperation with India, including programmes for Private Sector Development (PSD) and Vocational Education and Training (VET). The Government of India and Germany has agreed to address the challenges around employment-oriented skills development which India is facing.
IGNITE (Indo- German Initiative for Technical Education) is a joint program by GIZ and Siemens, as part of the Joint Declaration of Intent signed by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMZ) with Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India (MSDE) and Siemens India to strengthen Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) and enhance the employability of ITI students. The program uses a cascading model approach of enhancing pedagogy through upskilling of ITI instructors, providing in-plant training for ITI trainees and focusing on improving their employability with local industry. Through this project, we aim to bring in a systemic change to the skilling environment using the German Dual VET methodology to create 40,000+ industry ready technicians by 2024.
