Mission and objectives

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that supports human development globally by promoting volunteerism and by mobilizing volunteers. It is administered by UNDP and operates amidst growing recognition that volunteerism makes important contributions, economically and socially, to more cohesive societies by building trust and reciprocity among citizens.UNV Regional Office for the Arab States (ROAS) provides oversight and strategic guidance to the UNV Field Units in their respective geographical assignments and is mainly accountable for the placement of UN Volunteers mobilized for UN Agencies, Funds, and Programmes focused on peace, development and humanitarian needs. Furthermore, ROAS represents and strategically positions UNV in the region, bringing UNV’s services and solutions closer to its partners from governments, UN entities, civil society, and the private sector. The Regional Office also leads to scoping and delivering UNV’s advisory service offer on volunteer infrastructure.

Context

The purpose of this task is to support UNV communications, namely through the production of web stories and assisting in a project on UNV efforts to increase opportunities for and deployments of UN Volunteers with disabilities. The project seeks to promote inclusivity, inspire other partners to engage with UNV on UN Volunteers with disabilities, and foster a more inclusive and accessible volunteering environment within the United Nations system. The selected online volunteers will collaborate with UNV communications team who will guide on the detailed deliverables.

Task description

The UNV Regional Office for the Arab States is seeking the assistance of 2 Online Volunteers to support the collection, drafting, and editing of content featuring compelling stories, photographs and insights from UN Volunteers, UN host entity and UNV funding partners, in addition to assisting with outreach to UN Volunteers to compile visuals (photos and video snippets) to be featured on UNV website and other communications products. Each Online Volunteer will be assigned the following tasks: - Conducting interviews with selected UN Volunteers and/or their supervisor(s). - Writing 20 content pieces complying with UNV editorial style. Upon completing their tasks, the selected Online Volunteers will receive certificates of appreciation from UNV.
