We, Beyond Fossil Fuels (BFF), are an alliance of passionate civil society groups committed to transforming the European energy sector. We strive for a just transition to a fossil-free, fully renewables-based energy system that protects people, nature, and our planet. As an independent campaign, we are driven by a fierce dedication to ending our reliance on coal by 2030 and fossil gas by 2035 with a focus on the power sector. With your help, we can create a brighter, cleaner, and more equitable future for all.

This campaign is supported by a BFF secretariat, consisting of 25 people and spread across Europe.

We are looking for a new Energy Data Analyst, who is both a number cruncher and a power sector expert.

As the Data Energy Analyst, you will be responsible for:

  • Analysis that tells powerful data stories;
  • Tracking European power plants and power sector data and metrics, including maintaining, updating, expanding databases and handling data outputs, including in excel;
  • Analysing and synthesising trends and findings on power markets for internal and external audiences. This could be via a range of outputs e.g. blogs, briefings, reports, social or traditional media and data visualisations;
  • Monitoring energy market developments, and interpreting their implications for NGO campaign strategies;
  • Proactively seeking out new data sources and analysis techniques that can support climate campaigning in the power sector and develop innovative ways to communicate them;
  • Collaborating with passionate colleagues across Europe towards the same goal.

Required skills & experience

  • Passionate about a healthy, environmentally-friendly and fair society;
  • At least three years of experience in a relevant energy analysis role;
  • Highly numerate with demonstrable experience in communicating insights from energy data;
  • Experience with energy data analysis; excellent knowledge and technical expertise of European energy markets, energy scenarios and modelling as well as conventional and renewable energy technologies;
  • Experience developing advanced data visualisations (knowledge of flourish a plus);
  • Very good knowledge of VBA and MS Excel or experience with analytical Python modules (such as pandas) or MS Access; experience with SQL;
  • Self-starter, highly organised, able to balance multiple priorities;
  • Conscientious with keen attention to detail;
  • Confident working remotely with colleagues from different countries, cultures and backgrounds;
  • Excellent spoken and written English;
  • Proficiency in using Google tools (docs, slides, calendar, etc.)
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

Desirable skills & experience

  • NGO work experience;
  • Experience using analytical tools;
  • Knowledge of European energy utilities, climate, energy and pollution policies;
  • Knowledge of other European languages is a plus.
