Mission and objectives

UNDP is the lead development agency of the United Nations, working to support countries’ work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs. UNDP has more than 50 years of experience leading the UN’s development work, providing knowledge,practical expertise, and a legacy of trust.UNDP works in nearly 170 countries and territories, helping to eradicate poverty, and to do that in a way which also reduces inequality and exclusion, and avoids wrecking the ecosystems on which life depends.UNDP is working with the Royal Thai government, civil society, national partners and the Thai public to help find solutions to persistent development challenges. We continue to work to provide technical expertise, such as improved data quality and collection, international expertise on environmental issues like climate change finance and adaptation.UNDP's priority in a middle-income country like Thailand is to work within outlined agreements like the United Nations Partnership Agreement Framework (UNPAF) signed on 27 July 2017. We continue to provide strong policy advice and advocacy on normative UN issues such as gender equality, social and economic inequality, human rights, and rule of law.

Context

UNDP, together with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration BMA in Thailand, are implementing the UNDP, together with interested Public Institutions in Thailand, intends to roll out the Gender Equality Seal in Public Institutions as a tool to support and recognize the efforts made by public institutions towards the achievement of substantive equality between all genders. The Gender Equality Seal for Public Institutions is the culmination of the efforts made in the implementation of Public Management Systems for Institutionalization and Gender Mainstreaming. The Gender Equality Seal for Public Institutions recognizes the efforts made by institutions at three levels. First, in the degree of political commitment to gender issues inside and outside the institution. Second, in the management of the public policy cycle in all its phases, from planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation. And third, in its own organizational and institutional management, enabling the integration of the gender perspective in all its areas and levels. Based on the above mentioned, UNDP Thailand is seeking to collaborate with Online Volunteers with expertise in translation to support in translating of the Gender Equality Seal in Public Institutions toolbox to facilitate the national institution use and compliance with the program benchmarks and requirements. These translated documents will allow the public institution to gain clarity on the required information’s/ commitments from their side, and will also provide implementation guidance to effectively implement the program. Thailand will progress in achieving SDG 5 With its own public institution ability to provide more inclusive services to the public.

Task description

We are seeking 6 Online Volunteers to support us by translating toolbox documents on Gender Equality Seal for Public institutions program from English to Thai. To this end the Online Volunteers are asked: - To translate the document, which is 363 pages long into Thai language - Ensure the translation is concise, in line with our communications guidelines, and fits the audience The selected Online Volunteers will be provided with the document in the original language and will receive guidance on the target audience and our communications guidelines as well as other guidance as needed. The Online Volunteers will have the opportunity to build connections with the Gender Equality and Social inclusion team at UNDP Thailand Country Office (CO) and learn about the ways in which the translated product contributes to advancement of gender equality and social inclusion in Thailand, and support public institutions to to provide inclusive services to the population.
