The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide.

This position is located in the Solution Factory, Innovation and Infrastructure Support (IIS), Supply Chain Service at the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy.

The Generator Mechanic is under the general supervision of the Chief Innovation and Infrastructure Support.

Responsibilities

The incumbent provides efficient technical assistance to a senior engineering staff and to other users in support of activities related to the design, development and execution of various engineering services related to generator mechanics services in UNGSC.

Within delegated authority, the incumbent will carry out the following duties:
• Carries out installations on small and large capacity generator sets and related equipment.
• Carries out scheduled and routine maintenance, emergency repairs and overhaul of generators (static/mobile), including the installation of auxiliary fuel systems, such as tanks, transfer pumps and pit works.
• Responsible for installing and maintaining generator sets and related equipment within mission.
• Responsible for applying engineering standards and practices in the installation and maintenance of generators.
• Responsible for the safe and efficient use of tools and specialized equipment.
• Assists with carrying out scheduled periodic and emergency maintenance services on all the installations and equipment.
• Inspects and tests specialized & heavy engineering equipment for proper performance, diagnoses malfunctions in defective equipment and repairs damaged equipment parts.
• Replaces faulty parts and cleans, lubricates, and conducts routine services on engineering & specialized equipment.
• Carries out Generator/Vehicles Electronic diagnosis.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Job - Specific Qualification

Valid national driving license type B and C is desirable.

A technical diploma, either from a Technical College/Trade School or through an accepted national apprenticeship programme, is desirable.

Certification as a heavy equipment mechanic is desirable.

Work Experience

A minimum of three (03) years of practical experience in installation, repair and servicing of generators in an international, private, commercial, or military environment is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

Experience working as a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment mechanic is desirable.

Experience using Generator/Vehicle Electronic diagnostic tool is desirable.
