Smile Foundation intends to carry out a comprehensive endline assessment to understand the improvement made in facilitators and barriers in demand and supply of nutrition provisions (as proposed under the government run programs) to target children and pregnant & lactating women. For this purpose, Smile Foundation invites a detailed proposal and budget from interested agencies/individuals.
Background
Smile Foundation undertook a Nutrition Enhancement and Support Program for young children (0-6 years) and pregnant &lactating (P&L) women in 13 villages of Block Bhawanigarh in District Sangrur. The program was funded by a corporate foundation.
The endline assessment will provide data and analysis into critical improvement in bridging gaps and creating positive deviance in need for availability, accessibility and demand and utilization of existing nutrition provisions at household as well as at programmatic level in the area. The assessment would further explore enhancement of knowledge, attitude, behavior and practice level of target population with respect to the same.
With the proposed intervention, Smile Foundation intends:
- To understand improvement in access and adequacy of quality of nutrition provisions to the targeted population and help minimize identified barriers to improve coverage and thus, their nutritional status.
- To understand enhancement in knowledge, attitude, behavior and practices of target beneficiaries (young children and pregnant and lactating women) with regards to nutritional behaviors and consumption of balance diet with focus on improvement in Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices.
The Smile Foundation worked towards improving linkages among government functionaries, Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), existing Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and community volunteers to create synergies to mobilize the community and create more awareness among target beneficiaries. The foundation further collaborated and utilized convergence platforms such as Village Health and Nutrition Days (VHNDs) to help minimize the duplication of tasks and monthly meetings (where frontline functionaries (Health and WCD) meet) to provide role clarity to all to bring about desired outcomes. The project also undertook targeted IEC activities in local language and relevant BCC activities in leading to positive attitudinal change in the community.
2. Aim and objectives
The study aims to provide insights and find out critical improvement in the consumption pattern of nutritional provisions at the household level. The study will also capture the improved behavior pertaining to demand and supply of the nutrition provisions as per standard entitlements under the government program with respect to selected target beneficiaries.
