UN-DFS - United Nations Department of Field Support is a Department of the UN Secretariat which provides dedicated support to peacekeeping and political field missions in the areas of finance, logistics, human resources and general administration. It supports the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO), which is charged with the planning, preparation, management and direction of UN peacekeeping activities.
Most positions in the UN, particularly in peacekeeping, are appointed from a pre-approved staffing list. These lists are called ‘rosters’. Job openings, similar to positions descriptions, are posted online at varying intervals. Those who meet the required criteria will be selected based on written assessments and/or competency-based interviews. Those who pass are placed on a roster. From there these individuals can apply for positions in many different locations.
