UNCTAD – Prosperity For All

UNCTAD is a permanent intergovernmental body established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1964. Their headquarters are located in Geneva, Switzerland, with offices in New York and Addis Ababa. UNCTAD is part of the UN Secretariat and reports to the UN General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council but have our own membership, leadership, and budget.

Globalization, including a phenomenal expansion of trade, has helped lift millions out of poverty. But not nearly enough people have benefited. And tremendous challenges remain.

UNCTAD supports developing countries to access the benefits of a globalized economy more fairly and effectively. And helps equip them to deal with the potential drawbacks of greater economic integration. To do this, UNCTAD provides analysis, consensus-building, and technical assistance. This helps them to use trade, investment, finance, and technology as vehicles for inclusive and sustainable development.

As part of the United Nations Secretariat, UNCTAD employs a recruitment process that is governed by the United Nations staff selection system (Inspira), which publishes a compendium of current job openings within the United Nations Secretariat.

With a view to achieving a more equitable gender balance in the organization, UNCTAD encourages the application of qualified women, particularly to senior-level positions.

For the recruitment to entry-level positions in UNCTAD (P-1/P-2), candidates are selected through the United Nations’ annual national competitive recruitment examination process – the United Nations Young Professional Programme (YPP).
