Around 2 billion people around the world lack access to essential medicines, such as those to treat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis. In the year 2000 alone, these three diseases have killed approximately 6 million people. Since then, this number has diminished by 40%, thanks to the effort of numerous organisations that aim to reduce the gap in access to medicines and healthcare.
i+solutions is part of that history. We are an independent not-for-profit organization specialized in pharmaceutical supply chain management for developing countries. We work to make sure that essential medicines reach the hands of those who need them, and that they never go out of stock.
i+solutions' work is based on a double pillar: we offer pills and skills. Our services comprise:

- Training and consultancy in supply chain management, in order to make health systems in developing countries more resilient
What is pharmaceutical supply chain management?
In a well-functioning healthcare system, people have uninterrupted access to high quality, affordable medicines and health products. However, governments in developing countries sometimes lack all the resources and/or expertise to make sure that essential medicines are always available in the right quantity, right quality and right time.
There are bottlenecks in forecasting (identifying the medical needs); quantification (identifying the number of required treatments); procurement (buying the medicines); transportation and distribution (ensuring safe and timely delivery); and stock management (preventing shortages and expiration of stock).
Improving supply chain management of essential medicines is, therefore, a key step to solving the problem of access to basic healthcare. For this reason, many Ministries of Health and healthcare providers have been requesting assistance in this regard. Some of them request trainings and capacity-building activities for their own staff, while others partner up with external parties that perform the procurement and supply chain management for them.
