Searching for jobs on Impactpool.org

What is the best way to search for jobs?

While using our search engine you can make two types of search – Free text search and Filtered search. In this guide we give you some tips to enhance your search results and explain what the different filters are.

Free text search

Use free text search to search for a specific word in a job title, for example you can search for [Director] and you will receive a list with all jobs that have the word director in its title.

As the free text search is searching the title of the job only, you may get different results if you make a free text search for [Human Resources] in comparison with a filter search, where you filter the occupational group as [Human Resources]. The filter search result may be me more extensive as we have mapped jobs that are related to Human Resources under that category, although they don’t necessary carry the word Human Resources in its title.

Filtered search

Search based on Organization Group, Occupational Groups, Organization, Grade level and Country, see detailed descriptions below. By using the filter search you can narrow down your search result to a very specific desire. Remember that if you combine values from different drop downs the filter function will narrowing down your search result, so if you for example search the combination UNFPA + Mid level” (see below). The results you will see are all mid level jobs available at UNHCR for the moment.

If you for example would like to see all Mid level jobs available within your area of expertise, it is recommended that you search Occupational Group + Grade Level/Mid level (see an example below). The result will then show all current vacancies in the area of selected expertise and at the desired grade level. After that search you can continue to further narrow your result to focus on specific Organization or Country.

However if you select two or more values from the same drop down the search will expand, meaning that if you search “UNDP + UNHCR” you will see all jobs of both organizations.

Filter search options

Organization group refers to type of organization, example Multilateral organization (e.g. UN), Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) etc.
Please note that an Organization Group level is only visible if there is a job associated with that Organization group. So you may find that one organization group (very rare though) is no longer there the next time you return to our page, in that case there are no current jobs available which are associated with that group.

Occupational Group refers to different areas of expertise under which we have mapped different jobs. One job may have more than one Occupational Group, this occurs when our computer algorithm has identified more than one area that the job matches with. It can also happen that one job is sorted under multiple Organizational groups, however when you read the job description you may find it evident that only one of the groups is the most correct one, in this case we have added more than one group to make sure that you can find all jobs that we may think interests you.
Please note that an Occupational Group is only visible if there is a job associated with that organizational group. So you may find that one group is no longer there the next time you return to our page, in that case there are no current jobs available which are associated with that group.
