Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership committed to saving children’s lives and protecting people’s health by increasing equitable use of vaccines in lower-income countries. The Vaccine Alliance brings together implementing country and donor governments, the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, technical agencies, civil society, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and other private sector partners. Gavi uses innovative finance mechanisms, including co-financing by recipient countries, to secure sustainable funding and adequate supply of quality vaccines. Since 2000, Gavi has contributed to the immunisation of more than 1 billion children and the prevention of more than 17.3 million future deaths.

The Role :

Audit and Investigations (A&I) is an independent function designed to assist the management and stakeholders of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, in accomplishing its objectives.

Internal Audit is one of the functions under A&I and is an independent, objective assurance and consulting activity designed to add value as well as improve the internal operations of Gavi. It brings a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of the organisation's risk management, control and governance processes.

The intern will contribute to the preparation and conduct of internal audits.

Key functions and deliverables :

Under the guidance of the senior manager, the intern will support the team in:

·Research and document analysis from various sources during the audit planning phase;

·Identification and assessment of risks based on document reviews and interviews with Gavi teams;

·Elaboration of work programmes and preparation for field work;

·Conducting audit tests (walkthroughs, control tests, substantive tests, interviews...) on various processes;

·Documentation of work in the audit software tool;

·Drafting of the audit report; and

·Any other assigned tasks

The intern will be required to actively contribute to various internal projects of the department, particularly to work related to the ongoing compliance with applicable professional standards (IIA).


Eligibility criteria

·You are currently pursuing a recognised educational programme in a field related to Gavi’s activities, leading to a formal undergraduate or post-graduate qualification/degree; or

·You have completed your qualification/degree within a twelve-month period at the time of application;

·You are fluent in English, Gavi’s working language;

·You have not previously participated in an internship at Gavi;

·You are not related to a Gavi employee.

Qualifications

·Currently pursuing or graduated (within the past 12 months) with a Bachelor’s or higher level degree, preferably in one of the fields consistent with the requirements of the position (Audit and internal control /accounting).

Skills/Competencies

Basic knowledge of audit methodology and professional standards, and evaluation of internal control systems;

·Highly analytical and able to work both at a very detailed level and with a ‘big picture’ organisation-wide perspective.

·Excellent written communication skills.

·Clear, effective, and persuasive oral communication skills –

·Ability to work within a complex, dynamic environment and an appreciation of the diverse aims and objectives of colleagues, partners and stakeholders;

·Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams in a collaborative style
