Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This internship is located in the UN House, Beirut, Lebanon. Under the direct supervision of The Regional Coordinator for Environmental Governance. The intern’s duties may include, but are not limited to: - Engage in comprehensive research related to literature, regulations, policy, and data to support the implementation of UNEP West Asia project activities related to Environmental Governance in the region; -Mapping different political contexts in the West Asia region and providing the Regional Coordinator with insights and regular updates; - Support the regional coordinator in the strategic engagement with West Asia countries to advance the environmental agenda in the region. - The intern may carry out any other additional duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the direct supervisor.
Qualifications/special skills
Posting Text: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). (c ) have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme, or have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Applicants should demonstrate keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Good research and data analysis skills is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic is required for the internship.
