Mission and objectives

ABC In Indonesia, UN Women works with government, civil society organizations, academia, the media, the public and private sectors to address national priorities of gender equality and women’s empowerment. Placing the advancement of women’s rights at the centre of our work, UN Women Indonesia focuses on: Ending Violence Against Women UN Women Indonesia works with a range of stakeholders to increase awareness of the causes and consequences of violence against women, while also building the capacity of partners for policy reform to prevent and respond to this violence. We advocate for changing norms and behaviour as a prevention strategy to tackle violence against women. Women, Peace and Security UN Women Indonesia aims to empower women to contribute to better, safer, and more peaceful communities. We promote localized model based on women’s leadership to promote peace and tolerance, strengthening key actors and youth. Women’s Economic Empowerment UN Women Indonesia works with a range of stakeholders, including private sectors, to support women economic empowerment by providing access to skill development, resources and enabling environment to increase women’s participation in the economy.

Context

Across all thematic areas, addressing gender equality issues faced by young women, including gender-based discrimination, marginalization, violence, unequal access to education and opportunities for leadership and participation, requires active engagement and involvement of youth activists and youth groups, in order to deliver equal gains for youths under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The perspectives and inspiration of youth networks are critical drivers for accelerating progress on sustainable development and gender equality. Under UN Women’s youth and gender equality strategy, UN Women Indonesia is enhancing its efforts establishing National Gender Youths Activists (NGYA) to empower youth leaders and activists as partners in achieving gender equality, and aims to ‘engender’ the youth movement and ‘enyouth’ the women’s movement. Against this background, UN Women Indonesia is seeking a National UN Youth Volunteer as Programme Coordination Support Officer. The Volunteer is expected to provide coordination support across all program teams and enhance UN Women’s engagement with the youth network on gender equality in Indonesia, under the direct supervision of the Programme Analyst with overall guidance of the Programme Management Specialist/Head of Programmes.

Task description

• Provide inputs from youth perspectives to the design and formulation project activities initiatives related to youth and advocacy; • Support implementation, coordination and management of the youth and advocacy components of core and non-core programmes, including National Gender Youth Activists (NGYA): • Support advocacy, knowledge building and communication efforts, including background documents, briefs and presentations related to youth and advocacy; • Coordinate and liaise with programme leads and project managers under three thematic areas of UN Women Indonesia to identify areas of youth partnership and engagement, including designing and implementing workplans; • Develop communications and campaigns plans centreing youth champions; • Provide support to UN Women’s youth network, including the National Gender Youth Activists (NGYA), to jointly implement communications activities; • Maintain and update the youth network database; • Maintain relationship with youth networks and champions; • Document learning and successes related to youth engagement on gender equality issues and development of knowledge management products on youth and advocacy; • Ensure adherence to principles of youth participation and safeguarding in the development/implementation of all campaigns, communication products and platforms; • Prepare and contribute to reports, including progress reports and final reports, and liaise with the relevant teams, divisions, and partners for report content on youth engagement and empowerment; • Contribute to building partners' capacities in youth engagement, through coaching, training, and sharing of expertise; • Assist in mapping, identification, and engagement of key partners for youth from CSOs and private sector and engage them in the implementation of the program activities; • Participate in organizing program activities (events, workshops, trainings, etc.) and support UN Women and the implementing partners when needed in youth-related activities; • Participating in the UN in Indonesia coordination meeting related to youth, and Leaving No One Behind (LNOB) initiatives, including, but not limited to persons with disabilities. • Support the Programme Management Specialist/Head of Programmes with any other relevant duties on coordination as may be assigned; • Provide support UN Women Indonesia’s partnership coordination work as required; and • Undertake other key responsibilities as required.
