Ref: N-24-21 RLM&EM/NRS/HQ Regional Policy Outreach and Engagement Manager The International Potato Center (CIP) is searching an outstanding and experienced candidate as Regional Policy Outreach and Engagement Manager for our hosted organization, the Wyss Academy for Nature in the region. The Wyss Academy for Nature at the University of Bern brings together scientists, business leaders, policymakers, and communities to co-design innovative solutions to pressing, interconnected problems such as climate change, biodiversity loss, land use change, and rising inequality. Our vision is to achieve a just and sustainable world in which nature conservation and human wellbeing reinforce each other. To this end, our evolving institution – comprising four Regional Stewardship Hubs, in Europe, South America, East Africa and Southeast Asia – connects creative minds to jointly research, develop, implement, and empower technical, social, economic, institutional, and policy innovations at the interface of nature and people.

About the role: the selected candidate will contribute to a systematic, targeted, and active follow-up of topical issues that are connected and relevant to the work of the Wyss Academy and require some type of policy engagement to reach the intended impact. The selected candidate will be part of the policy outreach activities of the Global Policy Outreach and Synthesis Center Unit of the Wyss Academy for Nature. This position will be based in Lima, Peru and will report to the Regional Stewardship Hub South America Director.

Key responsibilities:

• Facilitate engagement with national and international policy-makers and -shapers

• Establish mechanisms to support the knowledge-uptake by other policy-makers and –shapers and other stakeholders relevant for the promotion of a new social contract with nature

• Design and coordinate policy engagement activities and accompany Wyss Academy staff at the SAM Hub in their implementation, e.g. in public consultations, thematic working groups as well as with relevant actors influencing politics

• Represent Wyss Academy in relevant policy dialogues (working groups, conferences)

• Provide advice to the Hub’s Director regarding the policy outreach and engagement processes at local, national and regional scale.

• Become the liaison between the SAM Hub team and the Wyss Academy global Policy Outreach and Engagement Team.

• Facilitate the SAM Hub contribution to the global initiatives lead by the global Policy Outreach and Synthesis Center unit.

• Comply with applicable health and safety CIP policies and procedures.

What are we looking for?

• PhD or Master Degree (desirable) in political science, environmental or related disciplines • At least 8 years of experience in a similar position, focusing on policy monitoring, policy advocacy and policy outreach.

• Proven expertise in sustainable development politics, multilateral and bilateral policy in South America • Clear understanding of the current debate on sustainable development at the different policy scales Wyss Academy works in South America

• Competencies: teamworking, independent, solution-oriented, proactive, creativity, cause-oriented, human- centered mindset, systems thinker, analytical thinking.

• Excellent communication and networking skills and fluency in Spanish and English both written and oral. Working knowledge of Portuguese and French are an asset.What are we offering?
