Context

This volunteering opportunity is supported by the Embassy of Switzerland in Tunisia in the framework of the initiative launched in partnership with UNV in December 2023 to foster youth and disability inclusion through meaningful and impactful volunteering assignments with the United Nations between 2024 and 2026. The UN Volunteer will serve as an Urban Planning Assistant within the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure in Tunis. The Ministry is tasked with overseeing urban development policies, strategies, and projects across the country, aiming to create sustainable, resilient, and inclusive urban environments that meet the needs of Tunisian citizens.

Task description

Under the matrix supervision of M. Abderrazak Chiha, Director of Urbanism, and UNHABITAT delegated respresentative, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 1. Conduct research and analysis on urban development challenges and opportunities in Tunisia, focusing on issues such as population growth, land use dynamics, housing affordability, and infrastructure provision. 2. Assist in the formulation and implementation of national urban development policies, strategies, and plans, aligning with sustainable development goals and international best practices. 3. Provide technical expertise and advice on urban planning matters, including land use planning, zoning regulations, urban design guidelines, and transportation planning. 4. Support the development of tools and methodologies for spatial analysis, urban modeling, and scenario planning to inform decision-making processes and improve urban planning outcomes.
