The Directorate for Education and Skills (EDU) leads the OECD’s work to help member and non-member countries achieve high-quality learning for all, design better skills policies, and turn them into jobs, growth, climate action and citizen engagement. The directorate carries this out by providing statistics, analysis and policy advice to countries on a wide range of educational topics.  

The EDU Communications Team provides strategic communications work for the Directorate for Education and Skills, including managing its digital presence across social media and web. 

The Communications Team is looking for two Project and Communications Coordinators with excellent organisational and technical skills to prepare EDU publications, briefing materials and other related materials, and to support the organisation of events, webinars and communications campaigns. The selected candidates will work under the supervision of the Communications Manager.

Job Description

Main Responsibilities

Draft and prepare inputs for events and outreach

  • Support the recording and editing of video speeches and presentations.
  • Gather input from colleagues in EDU and prepare accompanying visuals for powerpoint slide decks.
  • Organise briefing materials.
  • Liaise with with partners and event organisers to ensure the successful implementation of events.

Facilitate the production of EDU publications

  • Support the co-ordination of the EDU publications calendar, advise colleagues on publication schedules, guidelines and best practices.
  • Support authors in applying OECD standards, styles and best practices to their publications.
  • Support authors in putting reports into the ONE Author template.
  • Assist authors in the effective use of tools, templates and the application of best practices.
  • Undertake publications quality assurance and finalise publications using OECD tools and practices.
  • Keep EDU’s publications calendar up-to-date.
  • Liaise as needed with OECD’s publishing unit, graphic designers, external editors and translators.

Event Management

  • Work under the supervision of the Communications manager to support the conceptualisation, design and impelementation of events.
  • Brief speakers and panellists and facilitate their participation.
  • Co-ordinate venue management, catering, stand designers, contractors and equipment hire where needed.
  • Validate all communication documents (registration links, confirmation letters, and website content).
  • Co-ordinate event volunteers, budget, market consultation and calls for tender.
  • Proactively handle any arising issues and troubleshoot any emerging problems during events.
  • Set up and deliver virtual meetings and webinars.

Communication and knowledge management

  • Work under the supervision of the Communications manager to ensure the contributions of EDU’s work and external engagements are effectively, and strategically aligned with corporate priorities and to ensure high visibility.
  • Support the drafting and delivery of EDU’s monthly newsletters.

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic Background

  • A university degree, preferably in languages/linguistics, journalism or communications.

 Professional Background

  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of high-quality research and policy oriented publications. Thorough understanding of the publications production process from manuscript to printed product and ensure all steps are followed through in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to format and proof-read texts of an often technical nature and ensure consistent high quality.
  • Experience in applying corporate publication guidelines. Knowledge of OECD style guide would be an advantage.
  • Ability to handle several publications in parallel and to work under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Experience with the production of both print and online publication formats and good understanding of linkages between digital and print publishing.
  • Proven ability to adapt to new technologies.
  • Experience in coordinating work streams amongst team members and external providers.

 Tools

  • Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) is desirable.
  • Experience with any of the following tools would be an advantage: Adobe Creative Cloud, ONE Author.

Languages

  • Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and knowledge of the other, with a commitment to reach a good working level. Additional language skills would be an advantage.
  • Excellent command of English grammar.

    Contract Duration

    • Two-year fixed term appointment, with the possibility of renewal.

    • Please note that the appointment may be made at one grade lower in the specified job family, based on the qualifications and professional experience of the selected applicant.
