Mission and objectives

UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia (ROCA) supports national counterparts in the Central Asian States in specific niche areas such as, countering narcotics, drug control strategies, intelligence analysis, multilateral operations, precursors control, border liaison and management, customs controls, smuggling of migrants, human trafficking, terrorism prevention and cybercrime.

Context

UNODC uses communication and advocacy to build public awareness and understanding of the contribution of UNODC to countries’ security and stability, promote values and principles of the organization. Key messages on the priority issues developed for target audiences will ensure that all UNODC Programme Offices in Central Asia speak with a common voice. Well-coordinated and targeted communication will enhance positive visibility; strengthen the UNODC brand in the region, and inform the stakeholders on progress against set goals, aligned with SDGs. To achieve these goals and engage with a full range of audiences through assorted communications channels, UNODC’s outreach efforts, when feasible, employs innovative communications methods and tools. To this end, UNODC mobilizes new, additional communications resources at Regional and Programme Offices and create a more coordinated, streamlined approach to outreach.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of National Programme Officer, the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: - Contributes to the organization of events and conferences to strengthen strategic en-gagement with UN system partners, including international days (i.e.World Drug Day, World Day against trafficking in persons, etc.); - Participates in updating the UNODC ROCA web-site and social media pages; - Supports the files/records maintenance, and review the existing media repository. - Support the inventory and analysis of visibility materials to evaluate what exists and which additional materials are needed - Contributes to social media campaigns. - Assists in data collection. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities; • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica-tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
