Mission and objectives

UNDP in Nepal VISION STATEMENT UNDP Nepal works with the people and Government of Nepal, and other development partners to pursue equitable and sustainable human development goals through eradication of poverty, increase in livelihood opportunities, improvement in community resilience against conflict, disasters and impact of climate change, while laying down strong foundations for a society based on rule of law with an inclusive and participatory democracy.

Context

UNDP has been supporting the Nepalese people in their struggle against poverty since it opened an in-country office in 1963. Much of this support has gone to building up the capacity of government agencies, civil society and community groups to fight poverty, and to bringing these groups and Nepal's donors together to design and implement successful poverty alleviation projects. Under its new Country Programme (2023-2027), UNDP’s work in Nepal focuses on developing the capacity of government agencies (federal, provincial, and local level), civil society and community groups to jointly pursue development activities to foster sustainable and inclusive economic transformation, enhance people’s participation and inclusion in governance in the context of federalism, and promote environmental sustainability and resilience to climate change and natural hazards. To support the implementation of its Country Programme, UNDP Nepal has developed a Partnerships and Communications Strategy and Action Plan. The main objective of the strategy is to support UNDP Nepal to deliver its planned results, including through positioning of UNDP as a partner of choice in advancing sustainable and inclusive development, supporting strategic communications for enhanced partnerships, and ensuring adequate visibility for the work of UNDP and its partners. This United Nations Volunteer (UNV) assignment is part of UNDP Nepal’s efforts to strengthen its overall communications and partnerships efforts, as outlined in the dedicated Strategy and Action Plan. The UNV will provide support to enhanced development communications, knowledge management, intelligence gathering and analysis, and partners’ outreach.
