Description

Strategic Coordination Officer in the Foresight, Strategy & Coordination Department, Directorate of Strategy, Legal and External Matters.  
Reporting directly to the Head of Department, you will be responsible for managing relations within the ESA directorates and with other internal and external stakeholders on matters related to the preparation for the ESA Council meeting at ministerial level. You will work on developing a cohesive meeting, ensuring that the Agency’s strategic vision is understood and correctly applied across the Agency. 

Duties

Under the direct authority of the Head of the Foresight, Strategy & Coordination Department and in support of the Head’s functions, you will contribute to a cohesive ESA Council meeting at ministerial level, ensuring that the strategic vision of the Agency is understood and correctly applied. This will involve:

  • managing organisational issues related to the ESA Council meeting at ministerial level, including the Secretariat and administrative processes, ensuring consistency and harmonisation between the Committee view and the ESA strategy;
  • liaising with the ESA directorates, ensuring consistency and harmonisation between their programmatic proposals, while supporting the development of a narrative for the ESA-wide proposal for the Council meeting at ministerial level;
  • promoting the new ESA strategy, ensuring its comprehension and application amongst all stakeholders;
  • supporting the Head of Strategy in devising Europe-wide strategies and joint objectives with Member States, the EU and other third-party stakeholders;
  • supporting the Head of Strategy in strategy-related meetings, workshops and conferences as required;
  • keeping up to date with Member States’ and European institutions’ space strategies.

Education

A master's in science, economics or politics is required for this post.

Additional requirements

A multidisciplinary background and a wide range of experience are required, including in space programmes and policy development, as well as in working in various cultural settings. 
A proven capacity to interact with different stakeholders, senior management and high-level external representatives.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

According to the ESA Convention, the recruitment of staff must take into account an adequate distribution of posts among nationals of the ESA Member States*. In accordance with the European Space Agency’s security procedures and as part of the selection process, successful candidates will be required to undergo basic screening before appointment conducted by an external background screening service. 

 

In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
