Description

Copernicus Contributing Missions (CCM) Coordinator in the ESA EO Mission Management and Product Quality Division, Earth Observation Mission Management and Ground Segment Department, Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes (D/EOP).

Reporting functionally to the ESA EO Third Party Mission Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the coordination of Copernicus Contributing Mission (CCM) activities implemented by D/EOP, funded by the EU Copernicus programme, and for supporting the definition and implementation of the CCM evolution.
 

Duties

Your work will encompass the coordination of activities performed within the scope of the EU Copernicus Contributing Missions, which are part of the Copernicus Space Component and provide it with coherent operational access to commercial Earth Observation (EO) missions in various EO data domains to complement the data from the Copernicus Sentinel missions.

 

Your main duties will include:

 

  • analysing the evolving supply of all types of EO data at global scale, with a particular focus on the commercial EO data supply, including very high resolution EO data;
  • monitoring the evolving EO data needs of users that may be met by the Copernicus Contributing Missions for operational purposes; 
  • supporting the transformation and consolidation of the Copernicus Contributing Mission activity to ensure optimal business continuity in terms of EO data provisioning to Copernicus Services, improved adequacy for user needs and gradual onboarding of an evolving European data provider industry, including emerging European (New Space) companies;
  • managing the implementation of data demonstration and use case activities with commercial data providers and Copernicus Services to support the integration of the new types of data into the Copernicus programme;
  • managing contractual arrangements and projects with European emerging data providers; 
  • supporting the EO Third Party Mission Manager for the related communication and reporting activities.
     

Technical competencies

Sound knowledge of Earth Observation programmes, in particular the Copernicus Space Component (both space and ground segments) and the Copernicus Service Component
Knowledge of EO products, applications and market sectors in the various EO domains, such as multispectral, hyperspectral, TIR, SAR and atmospheric composition
Solid understanding of the methods and challenges of New Space in Earth Observation
Knowledge of commercial aspects within the EO context, including with New Space companies
Knowledge of procurement processes and service-based procurements

Education

A PhD or master’s degree in Earth sciences, physics, or engineering is required for this post.

Additional requirements

You should have ten years of demonstrated professional experience relating to the requested technical competencies.
