Mission and objectives

UNOPS IDN organization mission TBD

Context

In Indonesia, UNOPS implements activities in coordination and partnership with the Government of Indonesia and other stakeholders to provide capacity building, policy development, technical expertise, knowledge enhancement and stakeholder coordination to improve the delivery of several programmes advancing SDG13. UNOPS is engaging with Ministries and Government Agencies, donors and partners on various initiatives in Indonesia, including on Fund Management, Programme Management, Procurement, Infrastructure, Environment, Climate Change, and Energy. Among the projects UNOPS Indonesia coordinate, there are the Climate Village programme /Program Kampung Iklim (PROKLIM) and the UN Global Pulse Initiative. The PROKLIM has been led by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of The Republic of Indonesia (MOEF), since its inception in 2012. As of 2016, PROKLIM has become a strategic programme and a national movement for community-based climate change control in Indonesia. PROKLIM is one of MOEF’s priority programmes to respond to the impacts of climate change at ground level. The programme encourages the active participation of multiple stakeholders to increase community resilience, the impact of climate change and the reduction of GHG emissions. These include multi-stakeholder collaboration and partnership between governments, local communities, local businesses, NGOs, private companies, academia and financial institutions. In this framework, UNOPS is assisting the Government of Indonesia in effectively expanding PROKLIM’s coverage as well as strengthening sustainable livelihood activities. This project, funded by the Temasek Foundation, intends to implement its activities in 100 villages across 10 districts in South Sumatra. UN Global Pulse is an initiative launched by the United Nations Secretary-General in 2009 to harness the power of big data and advanced analytics for sustainable development and humanitarian action. Its primary mission is to use data innovation and analysis to address global challenges, including poverty, climate change, and health crises. UN Global Pulse operates as a lab that conducts research, develops data analytics tools, and collaborates with governments, UN agencies, and other partners to utilize data-driven insights for policy and programmatic decision-making. UNOPS is coordinating the project and assisting the UN Global Pulse team in the implementation of their activities, providing grants support, HR coverage, administrative help, and leading its procurement activities.
