OVERVIEW

Within the framework of UNESCO Korea Funds-in-Trust “World Heritage and Sustainable Development for Local Communities,” the UNESCO South Asia Regional office based in New Delhi has currently been designing a set of outreach activities to raise awareness of the importance of local communities for protection of the World Heritage sites, as well as the role that can be played by local communities. The cases being curated will showcase at the national level and the regional level in South Asia how World Heritage and Living Heritage elements in the vicinity of World Heritage sites contribute to achieve 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

 

Under the current biennium program (2024-2025), UNESCO priorities on advocating culture as a driving force for sustainable development should lead to recognise culture as a strong enabler for sustainable development at international platforms. In line with this, and within the framework of the World Heritage and Sustainable Tourism, UNESCO New Delhi Regional Office for South Asia will carry out various capacity building activities for governmental officials as well as stake holders involved in cultural heritage tourism towards sustainability in terms of carrying capacity, tourism programs which respect the aspirations of local communities, and the protection of cultural heritage.

FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Under the overall authority of the Director and  the  direct  supervision of the Program Specialist of Culture Sector the UNESCO New Delhi Office, the incumbent will:

  • Assist the Culture Sector to implement the above-mentioned "World Heritage and Sustainable Development for Local Communities" project by coordinating various activities with concerned local communities, civil society and local governing bodies including municipalities and development authorities involved in the implementation of similar projects.
  • Assist the Culture Sector in coordinating and liaising activities with the public stakeholders notably the government entities both at the level of the Union and state governments of India.
  • Liaise with the various agencies, experts and organizations working in the field of culture and tourism for collection of data according to requirements.
  • Ensure adequate reporting of the aforementioned project that need to be prepared on a regular basis in line with UNESCO established practices for funds-in-trust projects.
  • Assist the Culture Sector in various sustainable tourism related activities, notably various workshops planned to increase capacity that ameliorate protection of heritage sites, alignment of current tourism towards community-based, sustainable and responsible tourism.
  • Perform any task requested either by Program Specialist or Director of the Office.

Academic

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in the relevant field

 

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 9 years of work experience in social sector
  • Experience in tourism, data management or related areas in tourism sector in India can be an asset.

 

IT Skills:

  • Good knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and database packages.

 

Languages

  •  Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English.

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; strong service orientation and ability to deal efficiently with partners at different levels.

Academic

Work Experience

  • Experience of working with government organization like Tourism department or Ministry in India.
  • Prior experience in collection and analysis of data

 

IT Skill

  • Experience in advanced excel and power BI for data analysis.  

 

Languages

  • Good knowledge of Hindi (written and spoken)
DURATION AND BENEFITS

Duration of contract

The duration of the contract is 1 year with a probation period of 3 months, with the possibility of extension depending on the availability of funds and the performance of the candidate.

 

Benefits and Entitlement

UNESCO salary consists of a base salary at the SB4 SC9 service contract level and 15% of Base Salary towards social security (10% representing Pension and 5% representing Medical). Benefits include 30 days of annual leave and 24 days of certified sick leave.
