Description

Software, Navigation and Data Processing Segment Engineer in the Ground Software Systems and Functional Verification Section, Software Systems Division, Systems Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality (D/TEC).

You will be assigned as integrated support in the Development, AIV and Deployment Section of the EGNOS and SBAS Division in the Directorate of Navigation and will report to the Head of the EGNOS Development and IVQ Section.

The Central Processing Facility (CPF) is the EGNOS subsystem in charge of processing the GNSS signals collected from GNSS constellations to produce the various EGNOS/SBAS Safety of Life and Open Service navigation messages broadcast to users in compliance with applicable standards. Your duties will include, in particular, the management of the industrial activities in the areas of specifications, algorithm design, real-time software architecture and design, development and validation for the EGNOS CPF subsystem and CPF product software and hardware, covering both evolutions and anomaly resolution as part of EGNOS planned system releases and future EGNOS versions.

Duties

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

 

  • supervising the specification, design, procurement and development of all Data Processing Segment software and related hardware in the EGNOS Division, for both aviation and non-aviation domains.;
  • interacting with the EGNOS prime contractors and developing subcontractors;
  • ensuring, in cooperation with the EGNOS Project Team, the compliance of all the software with the technical and performance requirements of the overall system; 
  • actively contributing to the field of Research and Development for future CPF hardware and software architectures;
  • supporting new EGNOS missions and services, for both aviation and non-aviation domains, by providing expert support in real-time HW and SW architecture and end-to-end processing expertise; 
  • supporting the EGNOS team in the area of software development, qualification, safety and AIV; 
  • participating in periodic meetings with the D/TEC parent Section, contributing to the transfer of technical knowledge and lessons learned across the Agency.

Education

A master’s degree in computer science, engineering or physics is required for this post.

Additional requirements

More than seven years of professional experience in real-time safety-critical software projects (design, development, verification, qualification and certification). Proven experience in a DO-178/DO-278 context will be seen as a clear advantage.

Experience in managing industrial contractors developing safety-critical software and real-time software is a distinct advantage.

 

The following are considered assets:

 

  • Experience in EGNOS processing design and qualification and in procurement preparation and implementation;
  • Knowledge of integrated modular architectures and state-of-the-art virtualisation and cloud computing technologies;
  • Knowledge of mission and system requirements analysis, system design, development, implementation technical follow-up, acceptance and qualification reviews.

 

You should have good interpersonal and communication skills. You should be able to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse, international team environment, with the ability to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines.

You should also have good analytical, organisational and summary reporting skills, with a proactive attitude to solving problems.

You are willing to travel and thrive in a demanding international environment.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required.
Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
