Context

UNFPA, the United Population Funds assistance to Rwanda is in the seventh country programme cycle focusing on Sexual reproductive health including ASH and FP; population and development; and advocacy and gender. Key results included: (a) developing and disseminating national policies and frameworks; (b) building the institutional capacity of the health sector; (c) increasing the access of youth to sexual and reproductive health services and information; (d) strengthening the capacity of public institutions to integrate population and development issues into national policies and frameworks; and (e) strengthening the capacity of community and faith-based organizations, parliamentarians and the media to address population and development issues. As part of Delivering as One, the UN Country Team has established a UN Communications Group (UNCG) to be a strong unifying platform for dealing with common communication challenges facing the UN in Rwanda. All UN agencies in Rwanda adhere to the UNCG principles of communications. Accordingly, the Media, Resource mobilization and Communication Unit in the (United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Country Office, intends to promote effective advocacy for its mandate and its mission; and publicize its programme, projects and results of its activities. To realize this, the services of a National UN Volunteer Creative Designs and Social Media Specialist will be valuable.

Task description

Within the terms of the organization’s delegated authority, and under the direct supervision of the National Officer Communications and Resource Mobilization, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: ●Assist in the development and implementation of the overall UNFPA Country Office Communications Strategy, with particular focus on the digital communication, production of advocacy materials, among which are: Design and Creative Support: ●Develop visually engaging documents, newsletters, brochures, flyers, invitations, posters, and creative infographics that effectively showcase UNFPA's achievements across various platforms including social media, website, and print. ●Collaborate with the communication analyst and program units to strategically identify projects and outcomes for emphasis in communication materials. ●Conceptualize and produce creative advocacy designs to promote UNFPA's mission and objectives. ●Lead and support the design process for reports and presentations, ensuring they are tailored for printing, electronic distribution, and live delivery. ●Design event invitations incorporating relevant imagery and supplementary materials to enhance engagement. ●Generate innovative ideas for print, web, and interactive presentations, maintaining a fresh and dynamic approach to communication. ●Provide graphic and technical solutions for the utilization of new media platforms, including the layout and design of PowerPoint presentations as necessary. ●Offer design insights and support for presentations across all units on an as-needed basis, ensuring consistency and quality in visual representation. ●Collaborate closely with the social media team to design assets for daily posts and campaigns, aligning with branding guidelines and communication objectives. ●Contribute design expertise to proposals and pitch presentations, enhancing visual appeal and clarity of messaging. ●Provide input into the development of donor communication materials, ensuring alignment with organizational branding and messaging strategies. ●Collaborate with all units and partners to produce various products within allocated budgets and specified deadlines, ensuring adherence to quality standards. ●Capture comprehensive high-quality photo and video coverage of all UNFPA events and field activities, ensuring thorough documentation. ●Establish and maintain a systematic catalog of consent forms corresponding to captured photographs and videos. ●Ensure the proper obtaining of consent from individuals featured in photographs and videos, adhering to ethical and legal guidelines. ●Provide high-quality footage suitable for both broadcast and non-broadcast productions, meeting industry standards. ●Generate high-resolution photos capable of reproduction across print, multimedia, and online platforms. ●Prepare and optimize photos and videos for effective use on social media platforms, enhancing engagement and outreach. ●Create diverse materials for websites and television, including short documentaries, interviews, animations, and event coverage. ●Conduct thematic interviews with project partners, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders, capturing compelling narratives and insights. ●Contribute actively to joint Communications initiatives, including for the joint UN and Regional communications materials ●Perform any other task as may be required. ●Set aside dedicated time for capacity development through coaching, mentoring and formal and on-the-job training while working with national staff or (non-)governmental counterparts, including Implementing Partners (IPs). Furthermore, UNV volunteers are expected to: ●Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark IVD). ●Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. ●Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities. ●Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. ●Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UNV volunteers. ●Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically.
