Mission and objectives

The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law is the core legal body of the United Nations system in the field of international trade law. A legal body with universal membership specializing in commercial law reform worldwide for over 50 years, UNCITRAL's business is the modernization and harmonization of rules on international business.

Context

The UNCITRAL Working Group VI (Negotiable Cargo Document) has undertaken a legislative project toward the development of a new international instrument on negotiable cargo documents. The videos created will be used to raise awareness of this project as broadly as possible and encourage more active participation by member States and observers in the process.

Task description

The assignment will involve video editing and producing, sub-title creating (including using proper software for transcribing from videos, and using online translation tools for generating draft sub-titles in six UN languages). The expected final deliverable of the assignment will be an “explainer” video (in six language versions, each with corresponding subtitles in one UN official language) that explains the work of UNCITRAL Working Group VI. One example of such an “explainer” video of another UNCITRAL Working Group would be referenced on this webpage: https://uncitral.un.org/en/texts/msmes (down-right, on the "UNCITRAL Legislative Guide on Key Principles of a Business Registry"). The selected online volunteer will be provided with the raw video clips shot during the upcoming session of UNCITRAL Working Group VI in New York along with other clips shot in Vienna. The main scene will include, among others, the conference room/building, the scene during deliberations with the Chair/Delegates making interventions, and delegate interviews during the coffee break. The raw clips would be around 15-20 clips in total, with accumulated duration around 20 mins (each clip being approximately 1 min or less). Duration of each outcome video will be around 2-3 mins. The assignment might involve several rounds of calls to discuss 1) expected outcomes and 2) feedback on the draft videos. The online volunteer is also expected to make corresponding further edits to the videos to address the comments received from the UNCITRAL secretariat. The estimated starting time for collaboration of this assignment would be from mid-May.
