UNODC's Border Management Branch (BMB) delivers collaborative and comprehensive border management technical assistance to Member States.

Context

The Online Volunteer's work will allow greater access of UNODC materials to Ukrainian speakers, which will further foster the cooperation between UNODC and Ukrainian people. This work will directly contribute to the communication strategy of UNODC and spread awareness of the activities that UNODC is conducting within Ukraine. As an entry-level Translation and Media Outreach Online Volunteer with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, your primary responsibility will be to promote the activities and initiatives of UNODC in Ukraine through social media platforms while ensuring accurate translation of materials into Ukrainian. Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Head of Office for the UNODC Programme Office in Ukraine or his/her designated mandated representative(s) and in close liaison with the UNODC Communications Consultant / Focal Point in Ukraine and under the overall direction of the UNODC Advocacy Section, the Online Volunteer will: 1.) Provide high-quality translation services to raise awareness of UNODC's interventions and activities at national level, and support programme and project teams during the implementation of field activities. 2.) Provide general support to UNODC's outreach and communications activities in Ukraine by assisting the communications consultant in promoting and disseminating materials at national and local levels to ensure a good understanding of UNODC's work in the country. 3.) Report on the effectiveness of communications and outreach activities by evaluating key performance indicators/metrics to assess audience and community engagement and perception of UNODC across the country, and support the communications strategy and MEL strategy.

Task description

Translation: • Translate official UNODC 2-3 documents per month, 5-10 letters per month, 2-3 reports per month, and 2-3 web-stories, from English to Ukrainian. • Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and clarity of translations, maintaining the intended meaning and tone of the original content. • Collaborate with senior team members and reviewers to refine translations as necessary. Social Media Content Creation/translation: • Support the Communications Expert to develop engaging and informative content for the UNODC in Ukraine's social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) in Ukrainian. • Support the Communications Expert to draft 5-10 posts per month in English to obtain clearance and approval from the UNODC Communications Focal Point and UNODC Head of Office. • Translate and repost 20 posts per month, 2-3 web-stories per month, and 2-3 media campaigns per month to highlight UNODC initiatives, events, campaigns, and success stories in Ukraine. • Support the Communications Expert to coordinate with relevant UN departments and partners to gather content and updates for social media posts. Community Engagement: • Monitor social media channels to engage with followers, respond to inquiries, comments, and messages promptly in Ukrainian. • Identify opportunities to collaborate with local influencers, organizations, and stakeholders to amplify the reach and impact of UNODC messages. Analytics and Reporting: • Track and analyze the performance of social media posts using analytics tools. • Prepare regular updates on key metrics such as engagement, reach, and sentiment to assess the effectiveness of social media campaigns. • Provide insights and recommendations for optimizing content strategies based on data analysis. Multidisciplinary Support: • Assist in the development of multimedia content such as web-stories or infographics for dissemination on social media platforms.
