Mission and objectives

Morobe Development Foundation Inc. is a leading Internationally recognised NGO based in Lae Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea who has the vision to help young people reach their full potential by utilizing their hidden talents in community development initiatives so they can realize their potential and become a role model in the community. MDF was established to address a broader and more diverse range of objectives and work through the use of dance, music and drama, MDF’s primary aim is to ensure that women participate equally in decision making in any project undertaken, including projects related to Ending Violence against Women, and promoting Human Rights with a aim to support the Government and UN their Development Goals. MDF, in collaboration with Online Volunteers engaged through the UNV's Unified Volunteer Platform (UVP), has also undertaken various scientific research studies related to the environment - forest cover loss, land use land cover change, the influence of various parameters on surface waters, and coastal shoreline turtle habitat loss. These projects included the participation of various experts and researchers from diverse fields across various countries across the globe - ranging from marine biology, biodiversity conservation, PNG community management, remote sensing, and land use policy among various others. MDF is managed by a management committee, which is made up of the Chairman, the Deputy Chairman, Secretary, the Treasurer, the Project Coordinator, Community Development Officer, and a male and female member of the foundation, and ensures that women participate equally in decision making. We at MDF assert that we have the required skill sets, knowledge, established international network, and the necessary foundational work to undertake projects successfully.

Context

Morobe Development Foundation Inc. (MDF), a non-profit organization in Papua New Guinea, focuses on sustainable community development, addressing various issues like water sanitation and environmental conservation. MDF seeks online volunteers to help draft grant proposals for technological projects. These proposals aim to secure funding from two donor organizations: the Pacific Development Conservation Trust Fund in New Zealand and the Canadian Embassy in Australia. The projects will use innovative technology to address local development challenges, such as improving access to clean water and enhancing environmental conservation efforts. Online Volunteers will assist in drafting high-quality proposals aligned with MDF's objectives and the grant guidelines, showcasing innovative technological solutions tailored to Papua New Guinea's community needs. Through this assignment, volunteers will contribute to advancing sustainable development in the country by leveraging technology for positive change.

Task description

Specifically, Online Volunteers will be assigned with the following tasks: Step 1: Task Familiarization Review the provided task description to understand the objectives and requirements of the assignment. Clarify any questions or uncertainties with the MDF contact person. Step 2: Research (Category A) Conduct in-depth research on project ideas and technological solutions, specifically on improving access to clean water and enhancing environmental conservation efforts, relevant to the grant requirements. Gather information on the latest advancements and best practices in technology applications for development projects for improving access to clean water and enhancing environmental conservation efforts. Compile comprehensive research findings to inform the development of grant proposals. Step 3: Proposal Writing (Category B) Collaborate with the MDF contact person to understand project details, objectives, methodologies, and expected outcomes. Utilize MS Office tools to draft grant proposals, ensuring clarity, coherence, and alignment with grant guidelines. Incorporate research findings into the proposal content, providing evidence-based support for project ideas and technological solutions. Meet project deadlines and communicate effectively with team members to coordinate the proposal writing process. Step 4: Figure & Indexing (Category C) Receive images or photos from MDF or other sources to be included in the grant proposals. Utilize MS Office software to create visually appealing figures and indexes, enhancing the presentation of project concepts and outcomes. Collaborate with the proposal writing team to seamlessly integrate graphical elements into the proposals. Ensure that all figures and indexes are relevant and accurate, and effectively communicate key project information. Step 5: Review and Finalization Review the drafted grant proposals for clarity, coherence, and alignment with grant guidelines. Collaborate with the MDF contact person and other team members to address any feedback or revisions. Finalize the grant proposals, ensuring that all components are completed accurately and submitted on time. Certificate Issuance Upon successful completion of the assignment, Online Volunteers will receive a certificate of appreciation from the United Nations Volunteers (UNV).
