Room to Read India was established in 2003 and presently has programs in eleven states - Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi NCR, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. 

 

Room to Read is a global organization transforming the lives of millions of children in low-income communities by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. Founded in 2000 on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children®, our innovative model focuses on deep, systemic transformation within schools during two time periods that are most critical in a child’s schooling: early primary school for literacy acquisition and secondary school for girls’ education. We work in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations, and governments to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children and ensure girls can complete secondary school with the skills necessary to negotiate key life decisions.  

By focusing on the quality of education provided within the communities and ensuring these outcomes are measured, we have created a model that can be replicated, localized, and sustained by governments. With its global headquarters in San Francisco, Room to Read has benefited 32 million children across 21 low-income countries.

Over these 2 decades, Room to Read with a help of a comprehensive model has implemented a unique scaffolding approach (I DO, WE DO, YOU DO) to its programs to scale up and thereby reach maximum success. We have established ourselves with an ‘I DO’ approach in the industry and now we would like to elevate rather prepare our people and system to swiftly and nimbly respond to various scale up opportunities of ‘WE DO’ and ‘YOU DO’ approaches.

Background of the project

 

Keeping in mind the evolving education scenario in Indian education sector, our organization development priority is to shift from target driven approach to move towards system strengthening approach and hence it has become important for us to look at the work being performed by the staff, study their job descriptions, and conduct competency assessment of the required skill sets.

 

Position description and rationale.

 

We are seeking an individual Consultant to provide technical Organizational Development (OD) expertise in mapping and assessing the gaps in the current Job Description (JDs)of all key positions as per the evolving landscape of the organization and in context of new strategy.

 

Scope of Work: - 

 

To conduct internal competency-based assessment exercise.

 

Key deliverables: -

  1. In consultation with the stakeholders (India Country Room to Read team), lead the initial study of available repository and identification of key critical positions across country office and states.
  2. Review the JDs and revise the JDs as per new requirement.
  3. Interview the key positions existing in the system via random sampling of both (people who have been performing the role since past 3 years / people who have been elevated or joined in the position recently)
  4. Develop competency framework for each position. 
  5. Gap skill analysis of all key positions i.e. understand and identify who we must upskill/ reskill. 
  6. Develop an action plan on how to fill the identified skill gaps of each position.
  7. Submit the above 3 reports on competency framework, Gap skill analysis and action plan. 

Period of Performance, Level of Effort, and Location: -

  • The individual consultant is expected to require approximately 6 months - virtual call with the field staff and in person interaction with the country office staff.
  • The initial assignment is expected to begin approximately by June 2024.
  • The number of positions to be studied are ranging from 30 to 40.
  • In - person assessment report.

About the consultant

The OD specialist / individual Consultant be well known for their years of experience and have collaborated with various organizations on similar projects within the defined timelines in the past.

Resume will be evaluated based on the following criteria: 

  • Prior experience of working in OD projects. 
  • Overall experience in the development sector and clients worked for
  • Larger delivery framework
  • Milestones and timelines

Payment Terms:

Payment will be made on monthly basis post submission of original hard copy invoice along with relevant docs.
