The Audience and Market Insights team is looking for an intern to support a range of media analysis projects.

How can you make a difference? 

MAIN TASKS:

As part of the AMI team, and under the guidance of the Insights Analyst Consultant and the Market Re-search Manager, the intern will contribute to the following areas:

  • Identifying, mapping, and quantifying media trends.
  • Performing audits of existing research on key topics, and identifying ownable white space.
  • Analyzing how UNICEF and other organizations of interest appear in online conversations.
  • Understanding perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors towards UNICEF and other organizations, and how these differ by audience and market.

Responsibilities:

Month 1:

  • Onboarding with UNICEF and the Division of Private Fundraising and Partnerships.
  • Learning and becoming deeply familiar with media crawling tools such as TalkWalker.
  • Learning and creating search term queries/ taxonomies in Boolean.
  • Becoming familiar with key research deliverables, such as previous landscape analyses.

Months 1 to 6:

  • Conducting analyses of media trends based on clear guidance and research briefs.
  • Performing audits of existing research on key topics outlined in research briefs.
  • Supporting the preparation of insights summaries, reports, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Assisting in the maintenance and organization of data libraries, dashboards, and taxonomies.

Months 3 to 6:

  • Helping synthesize findings from multiple data sources into actionable insights.
  • Supporting ad-hoc requests for data analysis, visualization, and benchmarking.
  • Identifying recurring insights and proposing opportunities for refine taxonomies or analytical frameworks based on learnings.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Be enrolled in or have graduated within the last two years from an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. program in Communications, Marketing, Data/Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Be proficient in English is required; knowledge of additional languages will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated excellent academic performance, as evidenced by recent university or institution records.
  • Clear and concise writing skills (e.g., executive summaries, memos) and the ability to create professional slides.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g., father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office, and no other relatives in the line of authority to which the intern will report.
  • Reliable internet access, the ability to work remotely, and familiarity with standard collaboration tools (e.g., Teams/SharePoint).
  • Excellent critical-thinking skills, attention to detail, and strong data-interpretation ability (e.g., identifying patterns, validating findings, explaining implications).
  • Demonstrated interest in the policy and research work of UNICEF.
  • Remote internship collaborating with teammates in New York (UTC−4), Geneva (UTC+2), and Moscow (UTC+3); candidates in time zones UTC−1 to UTC+2 is preferred for optimal overlap.
  • Additional consideration will be given for any experience in media analysis and analytics, including Boolean search terms, and especially familiarity with TalkWalker.

Additional Desirable Qualities

  • Prior experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research (e.g., interviews, surveys, data coding, or basic statistical analysis).
  • Experience collaborating within multicultural or international teams.
