The Digital Engagement and Protection unit at UNICEF Innocenti conducts rigorous research to strengthen the evidence base around how digital transformation affects children’s lives. To ensure timely and high-quality research support, the Unit regularly engages specialists with expertise in quantitative and mixed-methods research to contribute to research design, implementation, and data analysis and to provide expert technical services related to quantitative and mixed-methods research activities. Individual consultants on the Long-Term Agreement (LTA) may be called upon to provide services in one or several of the following four areas: (1) Research conceptualisation and design; (2) Implementation and oversight of data collection activities; (3) Data cleaning, analysis and write-up; (4) Dissemination and engagement.

How can you make a difference? 

The consultant will provide expert technical services related to quantitative and mixed-methods research activities.

Individual consultants on the Long-Term Agreement (LTA) may be called upon to provide services in one or several of the following four areas:

(1) Research conceptualisation and design

(2) Implementation and oversight of data collection activities

(3) Data cleaning, analysis and write-up

(4) Dissemination and engagement.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have:

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: Educated to at least master's degree level in Psychology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics or a relevant social science discipline. One year of relevant work experience will be accepted in lieu of a master's degree.
  • Work Experience: At least two years of relevant experience conducting quantitative research in relation to children's digital engagement or protection. Proven experience cleaning, managing, and analysing household survey datasets from multi-country research projects, using both Stata and R.
    Experience contributing to mixed-methods research, integrating quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Skills: Demonstrated capacity to produce and disseminate high-quality analytical outputs in relation to children’s digital engagement and protection (tables, figures, reports, or publications).
  • Language Requirements: English

Desirables:

• Experience of quantitative research design, including questionnaire design, ideally related to children's digital engagement and protection.
• Experience of designing quantitative data analysis plans, ideally related to children’s digital engagement and protection.
• Experience working on sensitive research related to online violence, sexual exploitation and abuse of children.

Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Individual Consultants. Consultants are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws. 

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
