  • Closing Date:

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is financing Infrastructure for Tomorrow in Asia and beyond—infrastructure with sustainability at its core. We began operations in Beijing in 2016 and have since grown to 111 approved members worldwide. We are capitalized at USD100 billion and AAA-rated by the major international credit rating agencies. Collaborating with partners, AIIB meets clients’ needs by unlocking new capital and investing in infrastructure that is green, technology-enabled, and promotes regional connectivity.

The intern will support several initiatives exploring how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can strengthen and modernize the Bank’s cybersecurity capabilities. Potential focus areas include (but are not limited to):

  • Improving detection of phishing emails using AI models.
  • Using AI models to identify anomalies in user behavior, endpoint activity, system configurations, or network traffic.
  • Developing agentic AI workflows for Tier-1 incident triage.
  • Automating standard response actions under human supervision (e.g., isolating endpoints, resetting accounts).
  • Automating mapping of external/regulatory requirements to internal controls.
  • Automating audits, risk assessments, and control testing.
  • Conducting research on securing AI systems (model hardening, adversarial robustness).
  • Evaluating risks such as model hallucination, prompt injection, or data privacy issues.
  • Supporting Responsible AI governance initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Prototypes or Proof-of-Concept Models that demonstrate feasibility of using AI for specific security use cases (e.g., phishing classifier, anomaly detection model, security copilot tool).
  • Design documentation, model architecture diagrams, and experiment results.
  • Documentation of datasets used, preprocessing steps, evaluation metrics, and model limitations.
  • Benchmarking analyses of available tools, open-source frameworks, or commercial AI security products.
  • Recommendations for integrating AI capabilities into security operations processes, IT GRC workflows, and/or incident response playbooks.
  • Proposed governance controls for secure and responsible use of AI at AIIB.
  • A comprehensive end-of-internship presentation to ITD management.

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master or PhD program, preferably specialized in Artificial Intelligence or Cyber Security.
  • Hands-on experience developing prototypes using Generative AI, Agentic AI, and fine-tuning Large Language Models.
  • Familiarity with vector databases and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) architectures.
  • Strong Python skills and experience with AI/ML libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn).
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity operations, incident response workflows, phishing detection, or threat intelligence is a plus.
  • Research mindset; comfortable exploring new concepts with minimal supervision.
  • Ethical mindset consistent with Responsible AI principles.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Great team player.
  • Fluent in oral and written English.

AIIB is committed to diversity, transparency, and inclusion. We believe our strength comes from having a team with the right diverse skills, experiences, and abilities selected through a merit-based competitive process. We actively encourage applications from people from both within and outside AIIB members, regardless of nationality, religion, gender, race, disability, or sexual orientation.

Join in AIIB’s mission to promote sustainable infrastructure investments and to improve social and economic outcomes in Asia and beyond.

Previous experience and qualifications will determine the grade and job title at which successful applicants will enter AIIB.
