Within the ECAMENA Advocacy & Communication function, digital communications and public engagement constitute a distinct priority area of work. In line with the regional operating model, this includes the unified regional digital ecosystem and the one-language-one-channel approach to digital engagement. The Communication Officer - Social Media is based in Almaty to strengthen digital engagement in Russian and ensure proximity to Country Offices in Central Asia. The post supports the regional digital media stream under the supervision and editorial direction of the Digital Communication Specialist - Digital Media, and contributes to coherent regional digital public engagement, content adaptation, moderation, and performance monitoring across assigned regional-language digital channels, including primary responsibility for Russian-language social media content and engagement.
Under the supervision of the Digital Communication Specialist - Digital Media (P-3), the Communication Officer - Social Media (NO-1) supports the implementation of the ECAMENA regional digital strategy through the day-to-day management and implementation support across regional-language digital content and engagement, including primary responsibility for Russian-language social media audiences and channels. The post supports content adaptation, drafting, editing, publishing, moderation, audience interaction, and channel monitoring for digital platforms within the unified regional digital ecosystem. It also contributes to the shared editorial calendar, supports coordination with Central Asia Country Offices on content synergies and amplification, and provides channel-level insights and performance information to strengthen the effectiveness, relevance, and credibility of digital engagement across the region.

- Manage regional‑language digital content, with primary responsibility for Russian‑language social media channels, including drafting, editing, adapting, and publishing content in line with UNICEF’s regional digital strategy, editorial guidance, brand standards, and rights‑based approach.
- Contribute to the regional digital work plan and shared editorial calendar, ensuring timely, audience‑appropriate, and platform‑appropriate content.
- Support community engagement and audience interaction through monitoring and moderation of assigned channels, identifying trends, risks, and engagement opportunities, and escalating sensitive issues as required.
- Support campaign adaptation, publishing, and editorial delivery, ensuring regional messages and digital materials are appropriately localized while preserving UNICEF’s intended tone, positioning, and quality standards.
- Contribute to digital insights and reporting by monitoring channel performance, compiling analytics and audience observations, and supporting reporting, learning, and digital optimization.
- Support Country Offices and the regional digital media stream through coordination, content sharing, knowledge exchange, and implementation of regional digital standards and workflows.

Minimum requirements:
- Education: A first-level university degree (bachelor's degree or equivalent) in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Media, Marketing, or another related field is required.
- Work Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of practical professional work experience in communication, digital content, social media management, journalism, interactive digital media, or a directly related field is required. Experience working with Russian-language digital content and social media is required.
