We Effect is a development organisation founded by the Swedish cooperative movement in 1958 to support the development of democratic organisations and societies. In our international development cooperation programmes, we are applying a human rights-based approach supporting people living in poverty to secure their rights.

 We Effect is now recruiting a Programme Coordinator for the IMPACT Programme. The position is part of the Uganda Country Office within the East Africa Region and is based in Kampala, Uganda. This is a fixed-term full-time position linked to the implementation period of the programme, with a six months’ probation period. Start date is as soon as possible.

Main responsibilities

The Programme Coordinator will lead the day-to-day coordination of the IMPACT Programme in Uganda and support effective delivery of programme results in line with approved plans, budgets and donor requirements. The role works closely with partner organisations, programme teams and regional support functions to ensure quality planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting and learning. Key responsibilities include coordinating annual and quarterly work planning, tracking progress against results frameworks, supporting partner capacity strengthening, consolidating narrative and financial inputs for donor reporting, following up compliance and risk management actions, and facilitating collaboration with stakeholders relevant to sustainable agriculture, cooperative development, climate resilience, governance and gender equality.

About you

You are a structured and proactive development professional with strong coordination skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams while maintaining quality and deadlines. You are comfortable working with partners, donors and cross-functional teams, and you communicate clearly in both writing and speech. You bring sound judgement, integrity and a collaborative approach, with the ability to translate programme strategies into practical implementation, follow-up and reporting. Experience in rights-based programming, civil society strengthening and partner relationship management will help you succeed in this role.

Required qualifications

·        Bachelor’s degree in development studies, project management, social sciences, agribusiness, economics or another relevant field

·        At least five years of progressively responsible experience coordinating development programmes, preferably in civil society or international development cooperation

·        Demonstrated experience in programme planning, monitoring, reporting and results follow-up

·        Experience working with partner organisations and supporting implementation quality, compliance and accountability

·        Good understanding of budget follow-up, donor requirements and risk management in development programmes

·        Strong oral and written communication skills in English

Merits

·        Experience working in Uganda or the East Africa region

·        Knowledge of cooperative development, market systems, climate resilience or sustainable agriculture programming

·        Experience with Sida or other institutional donor-funded programmes

·        Experience facilitating learning processes, partner capacity strengthening and stakeholder engagement
