How can you make a difference?

In this critical role, you will provide practical, operational, and field-based security support. Your responsibilities will include accompanying personnel on missions and field movements, observing and reporting security-related information from the ground, maintaining regular liaison with local authorities and community interlocutors, and helping to safeguard UNICEF personnel, premises, and assets at the duty station and during official travel. You may also be required to drive when necessary or under exceptional circumstances.

You will be expected to carry out your duties with professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion, while ensuring strict compliance with UN security policies, rules, procedures, established security protocols, and supervisory instructions.

Based in Port-au-Prince and reporting to the Security Manager, your key functions/accountabilities will include:

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: Completion of secondary education is required. In addition, completion of relevant training in at least one of the following areas is required: technical/ military/security courses, guarding, first aid, or defensive driving. A valid national driver’s license is required. 
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in a security related environment is required.
  • Skills: Self Awareness, Drive To Achieve, Embraces Change, Manages Ambiguity are required for this post.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in French is required.

Desirables:

  • Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, English, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset.
  • Fluency Haitian Creole will be a strong asset.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • A good understanding of the United Nations Security Management System is highly desirable.
  • Experience working in a developing country and/or familiarity with emergencies /high risk environments is a strong asset.
  • Relevant experience in security operations, incident management, field security assessments, secure movement procedures, emergency response, security communications or defensive driving are highly desirable. 
  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
