Established in 2012 NRC Jordan’s long-term outlook addresses the problems affecting life as a refugee. We work to build the resilience of Syrians, and to relieve the impact on the Jordanian communities that host them.  Syrian refugees in Jordan are struggling. As they contend with difficult living conditions across the country, the obstacles are complex. They struggle to remain registered as refugees, to provide for their families, and to access essential services – including education for their children. The Jordanian communities that host them, meanwhile, feel the impact of hosting high numbers of refugees – with each year that passes, local infrastructure becomes more strained.

 

Role Specific Information

The Protection Officer (Urban) will provide day-to-day support to NRC programme teams, referral focal points and support staff managing contractors in host communities in line with identified protection mainstreaming priorities. The Protection Officer will support programme teams in utilizing and maintaining an updated protection mainstreaming tool to ensure integrated and safe programming and will be responsible for field level internal and external coordination and information sharing on protection trends to support NRC protection advocacy efforts.

 

Generic responsibilities:

  • Implementation of NRC’s protection policy at the field level
  • Promote usage of internal protection SOPs and guidelines
  • Ensure that protection is an integral part of programme activities
  • Support and advise staff and partners on protection mainstreaming
  • Produce data collection, reports and analysis as required
  • Represent NRC in field level protection meetings and coordination with relevant partners

 

Specific responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day support to referral focal points, programme and support teams in host communities to identify and remediate protection gaps
  • Proactively engage with programme teams in the field to ensure protection mainstreaming tools are up to date and relevant to their needs
  • Represent NRC in relevant internal and external coordination meetings in host communities
  • Support programme protection mainstreaming initiatives
  • Build strong working relationships with mandated and specialised protection actors
  • Build capacity of NRC programme and support teams on protection mainstreaming by conducting regular awareness raising sessions, inductions and support Core Protection training follow up
  • Support in preparing and compiling relevant reports and analyses

 

Our Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a university graduate , with a minimum of 2 years previous experience in a similar field.   Experience working in complex and volatile contexts, in particular in the Middle East.  Technical expertise relevant to the role. Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.  very good command of English, both written and verbal.

We are particularly looking for a positive individual with strong communication skills, who can build trust and confidently navigate both internally and externally at different levels.
