Country Office Background

Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) established its presence in Jordan in November 2012 in response to the conflict in Syria and resulting refugee influx. NRC Jordan currently employs over 450 national staff in Jordan is now one of the largest INGOs in the country. In 2016 the Country Office continues to focus on provision of protection, assistance and access to essential services for vulnerable Syrian refugees in formal camps and host communities. NRC strives to combine its programmatic activities with evidenced-based advocacy work focused on policy change and strong external communications and media engagement and. The Country Office also works to ensure safe and integrated programming through ensuring protection is effectively mainstreaming across all programming.

Our Ideal Candidate:

They are a university graduate with at least 3 years’ relevant work experience in a senior level project implementation position in a humanitarian/recovery context. They possess relevant technical experience related to protection and legal aid services for international organizations and experience working in complex displacement situations.

We are particularly looking for an individual with a motivational management style and a demonstrated capacity to develop and lead diverse teams.  Knowledge of the Jordan context or previous experience working in Jordan or the Middle East desirable.

Fluency in English, both written and verbal, with strong writing and editing skills is essential for success in this role.  Knowledge of Arabic is a plus.

Position Description:

The purpose of the Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) Project Manager position is to implement delegated ICLA project portfolio. The Project Manager will oversee the expansion of activities into other geographical areas. The following is a brief description of the role.

The Project Manager’s primary responsibilities will include:

  • Consolidate and strengthen ICLA programming in the areas of intervention through the management of implementation of current ICLA programmes.
  • Explore areas of growth for ICLA programming in Jordan based on operational opportunities in the field, and in line with the agreed ICLA Strategy for 2016.
  • Work with other managers to identify holistic programme opportunities and ensure integrated NRC programming in Jordan.
  • Represent NRC Jordan in field coordination bodies related to the implementation of protection programming, specifically developing strong relations with UN, partner NGOs, and local government representatives.
  • Ensure all stages of the project management cycle and programme quality are implemented in coordination with the ICLA Specialist and within the agreed NRC ICLA Strategy (including beneficiary participation, mainstreaming of cross-cutting issues, value for money etc.)
