Position Summary:

The Security Officer is located in Juba, South Sudan Country Office. The Security Officer reports to the Representative and coordinates the day to day security activities and maintains a line of communication with the Office of Security Coordinator (OSC) at the Regional and  HQ levels on all technical and security policy issues.  She/he assists the Representative in the implementation of their security related functions, coordinates all aspects related to planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of CO security related activities. The Security Officer maintains close co-operation with UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS), Agency Funds and Programmes Security Officer(s).

Requirements and qualifications:

 Education:   

  • Advanced university degree in Security Risk Management, political/social science or international relations, law enforcement, law or related area is required;
  • Technical certification in security management with five years of service as senior military or Police officer.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • At least two years of relevant progressively responsible experience in the field of security risk management; experience within the United Nations System, and preferably in a high risk duty station.
  • UNDSS/UNSMS Security Professional Certification desirable.
  • Practical and professional experience in the military, police or humanitarian work;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English. Spoken Arabic considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of security planning and management as related to installations, combined with good technical skills in safety matters and communication equipment;
  • Experience in working in high-risk humanitarian settings is an asset
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others in a team environment and with people of diverse backgrounds, culture and nationalities;
  • A high level of written and verbal communication skills and practical report and proposal writing experience;
  • Basic paramedic knowledge/skills;
  • Judgment and decision-making skills;
  • Promotes learning environment in the office/field; provides constructive coaching and feedback to others.
