The Division of Finance & Administration (DFAM) at UNICEF HQ strives to provide relevant, accurate and timely information to the UNICEF executive leadership to facilitate robust decision-making and strategic direction recognizing the needs of children across the world. DFAM endeavours to further instil a financial mind set across UNICEF, influencing organisational behaviour and partnering with business owners to identify and manage risks proactively, strengthen results-based management, promote continuous dialogue on cost consciousness, and identify opportunities to eliminate redundancy and improve processes, including shared services. The Administrative Management Section deals with facilities & security management of UNICEF HQ premises, travel & transportation, diplomatic pouch & mail, documents & reproduction, administrative support of field offices, common services & facilities in field locations.

How can you make a difference?

As part of the Field Services and Inclusive Operations Unit in DFAM's Admin Management Services, you will drive the implementation of information exchange strategies and workspace environment development plans to optimize the yield of resource use efficiency and inclusiveness projects across UNICEF's global field office network, to achieve concrete results.


Some of the key functions involve as follows: 

  • Facilitate knowledge exchange between offices for new initiatives, project updates and progress, towards eco-efficient operations goals and staff behaviour and practices at the workplace. Continuously identify synergies between Programmes and Operations around eco-efficiency and investigate areas of cooperation for knowledge sharing through established communication channels. Support the establishment of 'green' teams and share success stories.  
  • Collect and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information for situation analysis and monitor the implementation rates of UNICEF's eco-efficiency strategy for operations through established KPIs and scorecards. Assist in the implementation of the vehicle management system, water & energy audits, water & energy meter installation, and energy management system installation in the selected offices.
  • Propose adjustments/changes, recommendations, approaches on workplan and monitor the allocation and disbursement of Greening and Accessibility Funds (GrAF) ensuring that funds are appropriately allocated, coordinated, invested and liquidated in accordance with the technical committee's decisions.
  • Monitor and ensure that staff behaviour aligns and complements the goals of eco-efficiency and office accessibility projects to maximize results. Maintains the yearly GHG & resource use data inventory (Environmental Footprint Assessment), reporting to the UN Secretariat.
  • Identify critical intervention points and opportunities around behavior change in different offices. Develop training materials around eco-efficient operations and behavior, implement training programs. Prepare yearly regional/global workshops to increase and maintain staff awareness.
  • Facilitate partnerships and collaboration with internal and external counterparts, including UN agencies and private sector, in order to exchange information on project status, implementation and distribution of eco-efficiency services. Collaborate with the country offices operations team to establish and maintain sound internal controls supportive of eco-efficiency endeavors. 


To qualify as a Champion for every Child you will have…

  • University degree in social and behavioral science, Sociology, Anthropology, Communication, International Relations, Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Development, Community Development, or other relevant disciplines.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional work experience is required.
  • Both national and International work experience in office management, finance, human resources, supply and administration and/or other related fields.
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written) is required.  Knowledge of an additional UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is considered an asset.

This position is classified as "rotational" which means the incumbent is expected to rotate to another duty station upon completion of their tour of duty.
