1.         Organizational context

 

The post is located in the Information and Promotion Division (IPD) of the Madrid Registry, Brands and Designs Sector. IPD is responsible for provision of information on and promotion of the Madrid System with a view to increasing its geographical scope among developed, developing and least developed countries, as well as encouraging increased use of the System in existing and new Contracting Parties.

 

The incumbent’s role is to plan, design, improve and implement the Madrid Registry’s eServices, and formulate the strategy and plan for the development and implementation of new or improved online tools and resources. The incumbent also manages and coordinates the development of the Madrid Registry website.

 

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Officer-in-Charge of the Information and Promotion Division.

 

 

2.         Duties and responsibilities

 

The incumbent performs the following principal duties\:

 

(a)      Act as project leader and plan, design and implement eServices, which supports customer use of the Madrid System. Manage maintenance of the system, and ensure improvements and enhancements are incorporated and integrated.

 

(b)      Identify and assess the eServices needs of trademark stakeholders and owners; undertake system analysis, conduct feasibility studies, prioritize activities and translate needs into new tools, applications and resources.

 

(c)      Provide technical advice and coordinate with relevant WIPO divisions to ensure proposed and current Madrid eServices meet legal, business and operational requirements.

 

(d)      Plan and schedule the development and promotion of new or improved online tools and resources. Liaise with third party suppliers, relevant WIPO divisions or users on all aspects and during all phases of development, provide technical guidance to others involved in development activities, and resolve problems to meet deadlines.

 

(e)      Evaluate effectiveness, content, suitability and performance, and manage and coordinate the ongoing development of the Madrid Registry website.

 

(f)       Represent the organization at meetings and conferences of private sector representatives and/or government officials to promote, advocate for, and provide guidance and advice on use of the Madrid System and its eServices.

 

(g)      May supervise specialists and support staff and perform supervisory responsibilities such as assigning, reviewing and approving work, building teams and preparing performance appraisals.

 

(h)      Perform other related duties as required.

 

 

3.         Requirements

 

Education

       Essential

Advanced university degree in management, information technology, law, administration or other relevant field.  A first-level university degree plus two years of relevant experience in addition to the experience requested below may be acceptable in lieu of an advanced university degree.

 

Experience

       Essential

At least nine years of professional experience in project management, website management, public information, IP law or a related field.

 

Experience in the area of trademarks and, in particular, with creation of online tools to support trademark holders.

 

       Desirable

 

       Experience working in an international setting and/or multicultural environment.

 

Languages

       Essential

       Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English.

       Desirable

       Knowledge of French and/or Spanish.

5.         Information

 

Mobility\:  Candidates appointed to an international position with WIPO are subject to mobility and may be assigned to any activity or duty station of the Organization throughout the world.

 

Annual salary\:

Total annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment.  The post adjustment (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change without notice in accordance with the rates as set within the UN Common System for salaries and allowances.  The figures quoted below are based on the May 2017 rate of 81.1%

  In line with recent communications from the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) a decrease is expected in the near future.

 

Salaries and allowances are paid in Swiss francs at the official rate of exchange of the United Nations.

Additional Information

 

Initial period of two years, renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.  No fixed-term appointment or any extension hereof shall carry with it any expectancy of, nor imply any right to, (further) extensions or conversion to a permanent appointment.
