The intern will gain exposure to the global HIV/AIDS agenda and broader Programme Division areas and priorities, increase their technical knowledge of HIV/AIDS issues, interact with key partners and apply and improve their technical writing and organizational skills.

  1. Background:

 

          The request for an intern arises from a need for programmatic and administrative support for HIV/AIDS Knowledge Leadership and Partnerships team as well as the Programme Division Knowledge Management Team to regularly update the intranet and website to maintain its relevancy and increase its usership, to coordinate major events during a period of intense activity, conduct literature reviews to inform the development of key KM products and to provide administrative support as needed. 

 

          The intern will gain exposure to the global HIV/AIDS agenda and broader Programme Division areas and priorities, increase their technical knowledge of HIV/AIDS issues, interact with key partners and apply and improve their technical writing and organizational skills. 

  1. Purpose:

 

The intern will provide direct programmatic and administrative support to the Knowledge Leadership and Partnerships team in the HIV/AIDS Section and to the broader Knowledge Management Team in Programme Division to develop content for and regularly update internal and external communication and knowledge management platforms, to support coordination of major events during a period of intense activity, to conduct literature reviews to inform the development of key knowledge products, to assist in the development of templates to be used to gather programmatic, political, research and/or data elements from country and partner organizations and to provide  other programmatic and administrative support as needed. 

 

The intern will gain exposure to increase their knowledge of the global HIV and AIDS agenda including the use of data for programming and advocacy, the elimination of mother to child transmission, paediatric and adolescent HIV prevention and the integration of services within other programmatic areas including maternal, newborn and child health issues, interact with key partners in these arenas and apply and improve their writing and organizational skills.  The intern will also gain exposure to other programming areas in UNICEF including WASH, Health, Education, Social Inclusion and Child Protection, among others.

  • This internship will complement current academic training and provide exposure to the global EMTCT, paediatric and adolescent HIV and child rights development agenda.
  • The intern will expand existing skills in technical writing, organizational and communication experience, gain hands-on experience organizing global meetings and apply newly acquired research skills to identify pertinent and timely content for the website, literature reviews and tool development.
  • This internship will provide the chance to test out potential career choices in the area of communications and knowledge management, monitoring and evaluation and international public health and development, by gaining real-life experience in a culturally diverse international organization.

 

Overall Objective:

Assist in overall internal and external communication and knowledge sharing.

 

Specific Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Support functioning of the including organization of regular meetings, agendas, follow-up of outputs and finalizing of KMWG TOR, roadmap and guidelines for production and dissemination of knowledge products.
  • Support the development of the Programme Division SharePoint working effectively across the technical units (Health, Education, WASH, Child Protection, HIV/AIDS, among others.
  • Review, write and post content on weekly basis for SharePoint, including blog posts, resources, event updates.  
  • Assist in writing, editing and disseminating key publications and reports produced by UNICEF PD as needed.
  • Contribute to special projects and research, and conduct literature reviews, as needed.
  1. Expected results: (measurable results)
  • Intranet and external website updated on weekly basis, including development and writing of technical content
  • Editing and writing of at least 2 publications/reports/presentations
  • Literature reviews conducted as needed
  • Development of tool/templates for gathering information across country and partner organizations

Key competences, technical background, and experience required:

 

Minimal Qualifications:

The incumbent must:

  • Be enrolled in a programme at the Masters level, preferably in Library Science, Public Health, Public Policy and Management, Health Communications or Business Administration.
  • Knowledge of web content management systems
  • Strong writing and organizational skills
  • Fluency in English and another UN language preferred. Knowledge of one other UN working language an advantage.
