icipe seeks to recruit a suitable candidate to ll the position of Senior Research Assistant/Biostatistician in our Biostatistics Unit. The position is tenable in Nairobi at the icipe Duduville campus. The position is for an initial xed-term of 2 years, renewable, based on performance and availability of funds. This is a nationally recruited position. A competitive and generous compensation package will be offered to the right candidate. Overall purpose of the job
To provide statistical support to research scientists, postgraduate students, partners and collaborators at all stages of research and development.
Duties/activities/deliverables
-
Provide statistical consultation to researchers/scientists and students in the design of experiments and surveys, data collection, data management, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.

Undertake data analysis and relate the outcome of these to researchers in a comprehensive manner where necessary.

Ensure sound statistical practice by reviewing scienti c reports, proposals and manuscripts for publication.

Maintain statistical software packages and provide trouble-shooting backups for users.

Investigate and provide statistical expertise on new methods, tools, and approaches needed by icipe
research staff.

Develop and facilitate in-house biostatistics training courses and use of R statistical software for scientists
and students.

Participate in relevant icipe activities such as scienti c meetings.

Provide support to resource mobilisation and proposal development.

Supervise interns in the Biostatistics Unit.
Requirements/Qualications
-
Master’s degree in biostatistics/applied statistics/biometry.
-
At least 5 years of relevant working experience in a similar position, preferably in a multidisciplinary and
multicultural environment such as an international research organisation.

Pro ciency in the use of R for data analysis is a must.

Experience in handling large databases.
