Under the supervision of the Chief, Markets, Supplier Financing & Innovation Centre, the incumbent will be expected to coordinate UNICEF Supply Division’s supplier financing activities, including design and execution of innovative financing mechanisms to achieve improved market conditions for key strategic supplies for children.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  • Coordinate Supply Division’s work in supplier financing, including engagement with innovative financing mechanisms, including support for special contracting (e.g. firm commitments/volume guarantees, prepayments).
  • Support work on development of market influencing strategies for essential commodities for children.
  • Lead the development and provide advice to management on financing structures to support improved market dynamics including as an input to market influencing strategies and within procurement contracts for key commodities.
  • Support expanded access to financing for suppliers in program countries as part of a ‘local market’ influencing strategy.
  • In coordination with colleagues in Supply Division, engage with UNICEF’s market shaping partners especially in relation to potential special contracts and supplier financing endeavors; e.g. with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Gavi Secretariat, the Global Fund, UNITAID, the World Bank, DFID/CDC Group, and others.

EDUCATION:

A completed Advanced University Degree (Master’s Degree) in Business, Economics, Industrial Policy, or Financing is required.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of eight (8) years professional work experience in area of business development, economics, market research, or commodity financing is required.

Strategy development experience is required.

Experience in forecasting and trend analysis is required.

Experience in public or private sector acquisitions / business / contracting in required.

Experience working with trust funds and/or innovative financing mechanisms or supplier financing structures is desirable.

Commercial experience relating to complex health products (diagnostics, medicines, and/or vaccines) is desirable.

LANGUAGE:

Fluency in English is required.
