All translators are required to have a perfect command of their mother tongue and an excellent knowledge of at least the two other official languages. They must also be able to write in a clean, clear and perfectly grammatical style in French.

Under the supervision of the French Translator/Reviser, the successful candidate will be accountable and responsible for providing translation services/support covering a broad range of documents and subjects dealt with by the Organization.

Within delegated authority, s/he will be responsible for translating into French -subject to revision and mainly from English, but also from French and other working languages- a full range of subjects dealt with by the International Organization for Migration; political, social, legal, economic, financial, administrative, scientific and technical. This also includes documents which may be highly sensitive and complex.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

1. Produce accurate and complete versions in the target language using the most adequate terminology and commonly accepted or established equivalents of professional, scientific or technical concepts and terms.

Page 1 / 32. Maintain a certain speed and volume output, due account being taken of the complexity of text assigned to him/her.

3. Meet deadlines established for the production of documents.

4. Self-revise certain translations.

5. Edit texts in French to ensure style and presentations are in conformity with IOM standards. 6. Carry out linguistic research and, as appropriate, preparing glossaries, technical vocabularies and related reference tools.

7. Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

• Master’s degree in Translation or a related field from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience; or

• University degree in the above fields with seven years of relevant professional experience. Experience

• At least four years of experience working within international organizations; • Demonstrated solid drafting, writing, and analytical skills;

• Demonstrated ability to maintain high standards of accuracy, consistency, and faithfulness to the spirit, style, and nuances of the original text;

• Demonstrated knowledge of terminological and reference research techniques; • Ability to use computer-based terminological and research tools.

Languages

Perfect command of French (mother tongue). Fluency in English and Spanish is required. Working knowledge of other languages will be considered an asset.

Other:

Internationally recruited professional staff are required to be mobile.
