The UNICEF Internship Programme offers qualified and eligible students at both Headquarters (HQ) and Country Offices (CO) the unique opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work and the United Nations system under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff.

To be considered for an internship with UNICEF, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree programme; and
  2. Be a native English-speaker with excellent command of French;  and
  3. Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records

    Purpose of the internship:

    UNICEF Cameroon has ongoing requirement for production of communication, advocacy and visibility materials that documents key children's issues and ongoing responses in the field through high quality content packages, geared towards strategic audiences such as policy makers, media, donors, partners and the public at large.

     

    Under the direct supervision of the Emergency Communication Specialist, the intern will undertake the following tasks:

     

  • Drafting and editing text (news articles, social media posts, short reports, print publications) for different communication channels (website, publications, other)
  • Creating and/or compiling communication packages for the web;
  • Translating text from French to English;
  • Undertaking field visits and writing news stories for UNICEF’s publications;
  • Providing support to all external communications activities.

    Start date: 1 September, 2017

    Duration: 16 weeks (the duration of an internship is normally between six and sixteen weeks. The internship can be extended, however, the total duration of the internship should not exceed six months).

    Duty station: Yaoundé, Cameroon, with regular field missions

    Qualifications: 

  1. A first-level university degree is required in journalism, communications or any related discipline;
  2. Demonstrated interest in communications in a humanitarian/development context;
  3. Motivated to contribute towards peace and development and to serve others;
  4. Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills;
  5. Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team;
  6. Flexible and open to learning and new experiences;
  7. Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions;
  8. Native English speaking and excellent command of French is required.
